I'm working on a Metal EP that I want to Sell, I've got 2 tracks that I've written out in a program called Guitar Pro 6 and I plan on doing the Guitars, Vocals, drums, mixing, and distribution myself, I need to purchase a decent low-budget microphone next week so I can start recording Here's an instrumental of the title track. Constructive Criticism please :3 Guitar pro: http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php Cover: [thumb]http://th07.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2011/188/f/8/dimidium_animae_by_kak714-d3lcthy.jpg[/thumb]
It is clipping so bad, and there is too much reverb. Also, you should have waited to post until you recorded real instruments, cause Guitar Pro makes even good compositions sound terrible.
yeah I know it does, it sounds much better when I play it. I'll lower the drum volume and tone down the reverb
I think you should study drums a bit more or get a drummer to help you because the drums seem very off and don't flow the way they should in a metal song. There's more to metal drums than just fast double bass and crashes

I'll have to learn how to use toms correctly though.
I hate the fact that you want to sell it. I don't like the sound, it's really messy. Where is the snare? It's so quiet that I can't hear it. Please don't get me wrong but first plan to make an incredible good album with quality that people would give money for before you plan on selling it.
i dont think people are gonna pay for this

I've still got a long ways to go, I'm just looking for what I can do to improve it from here
As it stands, not much of it is perceivable. Do you happen to own an ASIO sound-card? If you do, you could record the guitars / bass with a lot more quality than GP6's Instruments, and then just import a MIDI drum line if you don't actually play the drums yourself. That will help you getting started with a much better sound to achieve your goals.
The rhythms make no sense, the riffs you're playing go nowhere and the track is clipping like no tomorrow. It sounds like the whole song is a breakdown with way too much bass. The kick drum is ridiculous. I hate to be harsh, but as it stands, there's barely any composition effort put into this. Work on writing riffs that aren't so forgettable and that have a direction. You're going to need to improve this a ton in order to sell it.

Sounds like all the effortless fret mashing and excessive bass stomping that infects the metal scene these days. Why don't you try creating music worth listening to as opposed to something that is impossible to tell apart from something else.
Please do not ask money for this. You have to practice first before trying to sell your music.

When recording straight from the Amp --> DAW, you need an Impulse Response after the signal gets into the Host to emulate a Cabinet, that also applies when recording Bass lines. Virtual Amps don't cut it if you want a heavy sound, they usually sound too "weak" and artificial when compared to the real thing, some professionals actually managed to get some decent sounding tones from Virtual Amps, but that sure takes a lifetime EQ'ing... Here's a 30 secs piece of recording (so you don't have to go through an entire composition) doing it they way I described you, Rhythm guitars, Solo guitar, Bass and Drums: http://youtu.be/pw6N_jm7jP0?hd=1
