the way we get by
On call 24/7 for the past six years, three senior citizens have made history by greeting nearly one million u.s. Troops at a tiny airport in maine. Filled with unexpected turns, their uplifting and emotional journey demonstrates the meaning of community at a time when america needs it most.
Cast: Bill On the day Bill found out he had cancer, he was still the first one to the airport. An eccentric World War II veteran, Bill knows firsthand what a thank you means to a soldier. When troops returned from Vietnam without any recognition for serving their country, Bill made a promise to never let it happen again. So now he executes each greeting with military precision, supporting the soldiers unconditionally. Outside the airport, Bill's life is spiraling out of control. While battling his spreading cancer, Bill is also drowning in financial debt. With time running out and creditors hounding him, Bill is forced to make a decision that will change his life forever. Joan Joan was afraid to go out after dark. Three knee operations forced her to use a walker, leaving her fearful of falling. After spending her life caring for her eight children, Joan was left living alone in an empty nest. But five years ago everything changed. Joan discovered troop greeting, and it quickly became an addiction. What she loves the most is learning about each soldier's family. But as a mother and grandmother, she welcomes them home, but can never say goodbye. Joan has to confront her issues of letting go when she discovers her granddaughter AMY (30), a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, will soon be deployed to Iraq. Jerry Jerry can usually be found parked near the airport runway. Sitting in his truck with his dog and best friend, Mr. Flannigan, he watches for troop planes overhead. When he spots one, if he's fast enough, he can be inside the airport before the wheels touch the ground. With troop greeting, Jerry's goal is simple-put a smile on each soldier's face. This small act helps him cope with the tragic death of his son. Haunted by these memories and facing unexplained heart problems, Jerry must come to terms with his own mortality following the sudden death of a close friend. Wow look at all those rewards Got to say, looks really great.
I love old people
It's a great movie.
If I can't tell what the thread is about by skimming it, I move on.
If I can't tell what the thread is about by skimming it, I move on.
Which is sad because any other normal person would read it. There's even a quote box up top that explains the film.
I gotta find this somewhere. Looks incredible.
ITT: seniors. But in all seriousness, it looks interesting.
This will go great with my cane from the free stuff thread.
I wish all the theaters would show it. It's looks amazing.
Naaaw, poor U.S. soldiers not being able to live with what they do to innocent civilians in their pathetic attempts to control the world.
If I can't tell what the thread is about by skimming it, I move on.
Are you serious? This thread is well made and intelligible, you on the other hand just made a thread about kids being afraid of sleeping because of explosions. It was stupid and made no sense with absolutely no explanation or back up for your inane story. You're unqualified to accuse the OP of anything.
This looks interesting, will probably watch it when I get the chance.
Naaaw, poor U.S. soldiers not being able to live with what they do to innocent civilians in their pathetic attempts to control the world.
I bet you like wallowing in your ignorance don't you? U.S. Soldiers aren't the ones trying to take over the world, it's the politicians. People like you tend to believe everything they hear. It's not that they can't cope, it's that someone is there for them when they get back. Next time read and watch the video in the thread.
Naaaw, poor U.S. soldiers not being able to live with what they do to innocent civilians in their pathetic attempts to control the world.
I was waiting for the butthurt ignorant liberal/European/whatever you are
Naaaw, poor U.S. soldiers not being able to live with what they do to innocent civilians in their pathetic attempts to control the world.
This. :smug:
I'm touched, I want to watch this. I don't like the wars people fight in but I like the people a whole lot more.

And of course, the soldiers don't want to control other countries, harass and assault civilians, kill people they're not even sure are their enemies at all, they just blindly follow orders. "It's not the gun that kills, it's the finger that pulls the trigger". "It's not that they can't cope, it's that someone is there for them when they get back". And they have to make a fucking movie about that shit? Well of course they have to, it's America, where everything is such a miracle, and everyone is blessed by the lord. [QUOTE=Cpl. What's that movie with Kevin Bacon where he delivers the body of the solider to his family? That movie was inspirational.
Looks like the sort of movie that is a lot harder to enjoy for anyone outside of the US because it deals with typical "American" problems and gives very "American" solutions to these problems. For example Gran Torino, to an extent at least.

I have two friends in Iraq right now. Everything you said about them harassing and assaulting civilians is just pure bullshit. I'm joining the Army in just under three weeks. Got a problem with it? Good. But I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with a European civilian. I forgot you guys have everything so much better under control, with fraudulent elections, embezzlement and all that other fun stuff which makes you guys so popular in the news. And yeah, they make a movie about it because it's touching. Not for pricks like you. Good day.
But I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with a European civilian.
No, because you know you would lose.
I have two friends in Iraq right now. Everything you said about them harassing and assaulting civilians is just pure bullshit.
Are you going to make a movie about that?
So you're thinking war is inevitable? That when we elect politicians we know a war is going to break out?
With your need to control the world, to suppress nations with other values and religions, yes, war is inevitable. Land of the free, bullshit.
I forgot you guys have everything so much better under control, with fraudulent elections, embezzlement and all that other fun stuff which makes you guys so popular in the news.
At least my country isn't ruled by Christian fundamentalists.
I'm joining the Army in just under three weeks. Got a problem with it? Good.
I know that attitude.
And yeah, they make a movie about it because it's touching. Not for pricks like you.
No, it's not touching, it's a pathetic attempt to put the blame on the middle east, for causing so much pain among the aggressive, war-obsessed American population. Bo-ho. Just like that movie World Trade Center.
What's that movie with Kevin Bacon where he delivers the body of the solider to his family? That movie was inspirational.
Taking chance, Thanks for reminding me about this movie need to watch it.
mikfoz would love this movie.
This is a great movie. Everyone should see it.
If this movie does not have Spoons 'That's the way we get by' in it's soundtrack. it is bad.
Doriol should watch this, he'd love it.
