A very thought provoking video. I came to the realisation that the egocentric behavior, ie. self first, individual gratification, is often a poor way of living quite recently, sociocentric behaviour, ie. thinking about others and acting selflessly, is much more rewarding and gratifying.
Plus selfish people are twats.
I can't figure out whether they're referring to the ego as the self or in the Freudian sense.

Silly self-defeating Kantian moralism. A selfless person is one who does nothing to their own benefit, not even acting according to a moral code that endorses selflessness. In order to be truly selfless, you must be an automaton who is a slave to every other person.

Your ego is not your imagination. Your ego is your sense of your own identity and desires, or according to Freud, it's the part of your brain that uses reason to process your thoughts and desires and filter them into reasonable goals.
Arguing that we should all be selfless is arguing that we should not help others because we like people and that we think it is good and kind to do so or because we wish others would do the same for us, but because there is some form of moral obligation to do so whether we want to or not.

You know that nowadays most of Freuds hypotheses are rejected by the psychological world. Due to the fact that he, acording to my recolection, never tested one. And the onces that were tested proved the hypothesis wrong.

This is bullshit. Without Ego, Humans would achieve NOTHING. They would be vegetables. You'd eat, shit and sleep. That's it. Ego is what drives us to do great things.
Think of anything you like that has made a profound impact, positive or negative on the world, and almost 100% of the time, ego has driven it. Modern Medicine, Science, you name it. Your "ego" is what pushes you to see through hardships and life and reach your goals. Your ego is what drives you to get what you want.

no ego is the thing that tells you that what you are about to do is very easy for you, that you are the best and everyone else sucks. I admit it's a necessary evil but still.
