[release]Like a doctor trying to give a squirming child a shot, History continues to look for new ways to distract its apparently education-wary viewers from its brand. Now look over here Blue Collar Comedy Tour fans -- it's Larry the Cable Guy! He's gonna try to backdoor you a history lesson in a reality show. In "Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy" (it's a working title, so don't fall in love with it just yet), Larry explores the country, immersing himself in different lifestyles, jobs and hobbies that "celebrate the American experience." “Larry the Cable Guy wows audiences across the country with his unique brand of humor and quirky take on America," said Nancy Dubuc, president and GM of History. “We are thrilled to welcome him to History in what promises to be a brand-busting genre-busting series that takes a look at history like you’ve never seen it before.” OK. But why not assume your viewers are smart and hire a popular personality with a smart reputation to do a smart show? Not to sound like those people who whine about the lack of music videos on MTV, but I keep finding myself skipping over reality marathons of "Pawn Stars" and "Madhouse" on History looking for content that's actually about history rather than tangentially trying to shoehorn history into the same sort of docusoap series you can find on most basic cable nets. I remember when the History Channel cared about, you know, History.
i want larry the cable guy to teach my world history class
we hate black people hyuck hyuck hyuck! America was the furst cuntry to be foundeded hyuck!
The only time the "History" Channel actually shows history is in the mornings for 1-2 hours. Then it just goes back to a second Discovery network.
Larry the Cable Guy is a funny comedian, but he should stick to stand-up. I mean, look at the shitty movies he's been in.
I do not like fart jokes in World War I history
What the fuck. That's all I can say. We are really becoming this stupid of a nation, to where the only sacred channel where we can actually learn, is now being filled with a comedian? A half-assed comedian who can't speak English any better than the very same people we outsource all of our products and services to? One word: Idiocracy. It's holding true faster, and faster.
Only in America.
 I remember when the History Channel cared about, you know, History.
Exactly, where the fuck are my black and white war tapes? Fuck that channel has gone to hell.
History has been circling the drain ever since they started taking religious and Nostradamus fantasy and treating it like hard fact. That, and the continual discarding of actual documentaries in favor of bullshit reality/drama.
Glad I don't live in America
Another nail in the coffin of human society.
It's been going down the shitter for a while now, I was kind of expecting this.
i want larry the cable guy to teach my world history class
i want him to teach my science class
Discovery needs to buy this channel
it's not so bad, honestly

People are gonna look back thousands of years from now and be all "THIS was our history?"
Do you really rely on TV to learn? AUTOMERGE :flaccid:
I think we should write Corporate an email stating we do not want to turn into a nation full of idiots and that we value education. I don't want History Channel turning into another TLC.

Midgets! Deformed kids!
They desperate to get any shows?

What happened to the old days when we learned the badassery of Hannibal and how he brought Roman to his knees?
I just died a little inside :frown:
In a massively changing market, things have to adapt, or die out.
In a massively changing market, things have to adapt, or die out.
More like a massively stupid market.
Argh. The comedy channel is 1 slot away from the history channel, now that crap will be on both.
