Without a doubt, the camera on the iPhone 4S is an exceptional one and is one of the main sellingpoints of the device -- together with the dual-core processor as well as Siri. It looks like the Apple phone's camera could be removed from the phone in Singapore, according to recent reports.
In order to target future possible owners that are in the military, carriers in Singapore are reportedly planning on offering camera-less iPhones. Even more, carrier M1 has featured the no-camera version of the iPhone 4S on its website (taken down by the end of the day). Two major drawbacks are present though: the actual process of removing the cameras from the phones (however the carriers will see fit) will void Apple's warranty (but the carrier can probably still offer its own) and second, the process itself will be charged and the costs added to the price of the phone. Yeah, If you enter the military compounds, no camera's, no USBs, and no device with screens larger than a PSP.
...Why?
...Why?
Cause they scared of people leaking documents and shit.

This I can understand to a small degree and I assume most if not all countries take similar protections. But modifying the iPhone to target people in the military seems like a little overkill.
(Surely if that was the reason they would have to modify the firmware because afaik you can use it as a USB storage device)
Reminds me how ATT made Samsung strip the flash on the Galaxy S Captivate camera because the Iphone 4 had flash. At least I have a camera.
They could probably get the camera module and a back on ebay and install it themselves.

That is if they didn't remove the connector from the logic board

You can but you have to faff about with it.

Why would you want to live there? I'd find it wholly intolerable with the heavy fines you can get for simply chewing gum or receiving corporal punishment ( the minimum with getting a caning) for having only .3 a gram of marijuana.
But I thought Singapore was friendly.

I'm not planning to. Planning to move out once I finished studying

Not like we have a choice.
The image above looks fake. The shadows around where would be the camera don't quite mesh with the rest of the back of the iPhone.
Not allowing cameras in semi-sensitive areas of military bases isn't really that novel of a thing at all. Heck they had little lockers for you to keep your shit in in the lobbies of the building's I've been to where that's the case. Would certainly be less of a hassle.
pretty sure if you were serious about photography you wouldn't be using an iphone
pretty sure if you were serious about stealing highly classified military documents you also wouldn't be using an iphone
More reasons to go android.
More reasons to go android.
Totally irrelevant in this case.
Totally irrelevant in this case.
I'm pretty sure that the fucking bible tells you to support iPhone and kill the gays
where is your 'god' now, huh!?!?
Totally irrelevant in this case.
But in this case, if you go android, you get a camera
IIRC, Apple will remove the optics from any iPhone if you ask them to (atleast in America) i.e. you can send the device back and they will remove the camera for you because of people wanting to use iPhones in the military
But in this case, if you go android, you get a camera
Are you aware that this thing is aimed for military customers and is totally optional? If you'd buy an Android (or any other for that matter) phone with a camera you probably couldn't use that in military installations.
Oh, I misread the article. I thought it was saying that none of the iphones would have cameras :v:
The thread title is fucking horrible

use an iphone to hack their base through wifi and blow up all their nukes man i do it all the time its not a rare thing xD
Title makes it sound like the iPhone is an add-on for a camera :v:
It's so they can't film themselves beating sheep.
I'm not sure if I've read the article right, but it seems that the camera-less phones are targeted specifically at military personnel, and civilians will still be able to buy the normal phones.
