Info:
In Flames is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990 and is considered to be a pioneer and major influence to the melodic death metal genre. Since the band's conception in 1990, they have received numerous awards and released nine studio albums and one live DVD. The band has enjoyed increased popularity in recent years, both in its native Sweden and internationally. To date the band has sold over 2 million records worldwide
Albums: 1. Lunar Strain
Lunar Strain is the debut album released by Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames in 1993. In this release, vocals were sung by Mikael Stanne, the vocalist of Dark Tranquillity, who was a session musician for In Flames at the time. The album is known for its "folky elements" with the inclusion of violins and acoustic guitars. In 1999, it was re-released in Japan and included all the tracks of the Subterranean album, under the title Lunar Strain & Subterranean. In the 2003 Regain Records version of the re-release, the songs order differs slightly with "Clad in Shadows" being the second track Shifting the rest down by one. However, the discrepancy is not apparent in album track listing, being mislabeled as the below. The album was re-released, and remastered with bonus tracks in 2005 under Regain Records and Candlelight Records USA. The bonus tracks are actually from In Flames' 1993 Promo, which contained "alternative mixed versions of the album recordings."
2. Subterranean
Subterranean is an MCD released by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames in 1994 This is the only release with vocalist Henke Forss. It was remastered and re-released in 2007 by Regain Records. Two bonus tracks were added, both being covers ; Eye of the Beholder from Metallica and Murders in the Rue Morgue from Iron Maiden.
3. The Jester Race
The Jester Race is the second album by the melodic death metal band In Flames. It is the first album to feature Anders Fridén as the band's vocalist, the band having previously used session vocalists and Bjorn Gelotte as the Drummer. A video for the song "Artifacts of the Black Rain" was also released. It was also the first album to feature the Jesterhead. After releasing The Jester Race, the band then toured with Samael, Grip Inc. and Kreator. The album was the band's second full-length album released following the more mainstream success of the 1994 EP Subterranean. The Jester Race was recorded at Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordstrom, who also contributed keyboards for the album. The Jester Race is considered a classic album of the Gothenburg style of metal, along with At the Gates' Slaughter of the Soul and Dark Tranquillity's The Gallery, exhibiting the dual guitar leads, growled vocals and acoustic sections typical of the genre.
4. Black-Ash Inheritance (sorry about the quality)
Black-Ash Inheritance is a MCD by melodic death metal band In Flames, released in 1997. The title is a lyric from their song "Dead God in Me" from The Jester Race. It was released as a preview of the upcoming album Whoracle. The tracks were included in the Japanese release of Whoracle as well as the later reissue of The Jester Race. The track "Gyroscope" was later released on the following album, Whoracle, and the track "Behind Space" was originally on the band's debut album Lunar Strain, featuring the vocals of Mikael Stanne. The "Acoustic Medley" is a medley of three In Flames songs; "Artifacts of the Black Rain" (The Jester Race), "Dead Eternity" (The Jester Race) and "Jotun" (Whoracle). In 2007, Black-Ash Inheritance was re-released as a shaped mini-LP by Night of the Vinyl Dead Records, limited to 555 copies.
5. Whoracle
Whoracle is the third album by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. The album was released through Nuclear Blast on November 18, 1997. Apart from "Everything Counts", which is a cover of a Depeche Mode song, all songs were composed and arranged by In Flames. The lyrics are translated by Dark Tranquillity guitarist Niklas Sundin, after Anders Fridén had written them in Swedish. Whoracle is the final album to have Johan Larsson & Glenn Ljungström.
6. Colony
Colony is an album by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. It was released on June 22, 1999 through Nuclear Blast. It was the first In Flames album to feature the current lineup of the band along with with Bjorn Gelotte to switch his postion from Drummer to premanent Guitarist and to having New Members Daniel Svensson & Peter Iwers. The album deals with various aspects of religion and spirituality, from the somewhat positive light of "Embody the Invisible" and "The New Word" to the more negative "Zombie Inc." and "Scorn". This album features a faster, tighter, and more energetic approach to the music than displayed on the previous album Whoracle, though the song-writing approach is similar. A Music Video was made for "Ordinary Story". The track "Behind Space '99" is a remake of the track first heard on Lunar Strain, though devoid of its original acoustic guitar outro. The song "Embody the Invisible" appears in the soundtrack of skateboarding video game Tony Hawk's Underground.
7. Clayman
Clayman is a melodic death metal album by In Flames. The album was released by Nuclear Blast in 2000. The album is the band's last release in a pure melodic death metal style, with later albums featuring influences from alternative metal. Most of the lyrics deal with depression and internal struggles. The album's cover art is based on Leonardo da Vinci's drawing, the Vitruvian Man. The Jesterhead appears in the background, both on the cover, and in the album booklet itself. Music Videos were made for "Pinball Map" & "Only For The Weak"
8. The Tokyo Showdown
The Tokyo Showdown is the 2001 live album of the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. It was recorded during their Japanese tour in 2000 at their show in Tokyo.
9. Reroute to Remain
Reroute to Remain (subtitled as: Fourteen Songs of Conscious Insanity) is the sixth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. The album was released on September 3, 2002 on Nuclear Blast. Reroute to Remain was In Flames' first big step towards mainstream music, and was rejected by sections of In Flames' fan base upon its release. It is sometimes viewed as a transitional album between Clayman and Soundtrack to Your Escape. The album's more accessible sound attracted many new fans, and launched In Flames into the US metal scene, securing them the top spot at Ozzfest. However, many fans of In Flames' earlier albums rejected this release, claiming that the band had sold out because of its American influences from scenes like alternative metal, nu metal and metalcore. Despite this, the album peaked at #13 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Two singles were released, "Trigger" and "Cloud Connected." The music video for Cloud Connected simply shows In Flames in a barren landscape (actually a studio), and also shows the band members (starting with Anders), putting their face up against what seemed to be porthole, seeming heavily influenced on a Stargate theme. The music video for "Trigger" has the band performing for fans while fellow Swedish band Soilwork observes from a distance and appears to be at odds with In Flames. A video for "Rejection Role" from Figure Number Five, Soilwork's album of the time, reverses this gag role.
10. Trigger
Trigger is an EP by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames, released in 2003. The title track, "Trigger", was taken from their 2002 album, Reroute to Remain.
11. Soundtrack to Your Escape
Soundtrack to Your Escape is the seventh studio album of Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. It was released on March 29, 2004 by Nuclear Blast. The album was available in both a regular jewel case release featuring 12 tracks, and a limited edition digipak with a bonus track, "Discover Me Like Emptiness". The Japanese version had the additional track 'Clay Man'. There was also a special edition which included a bonus DVD with videos of the first two singles, "The Quiet Place" and "Touch of Red", and live footage. Videos were also made for "My Sweet Shadow", "Like You Better Dead" and "F(r)iend". The album was criticized by long time fans for its modern sound. However, the album was seen by many as a natural progression from Reroute to Remain and was critically praised in many areas of the press such as Metal Hammer and Kerrang!. Soundtrack to Your Escape reached #3 in Sweden. In the USA it peaked at #145 on the Billboard 200, #2 on the Heatseekers Chart, and #7 on the Top Independent Albums charts.
12. Used & Abused In Live We Trust [/img]http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4712/trustliveau1.jpg[/img]
Used and Abused: In Live We Trust is a DVD release by Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames, released in June 18, 2005. It was also released in a limited edition 2 CD/ 2 DVD boxset.
13. Come Clarity
Come Clarity is the eighth studio album by In Flames, released on February 3, 2006 in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records and February 7 in the U.S. through Ferret Records. The special edition of the album includes a special bonus DVD, featuring the band playing the album in its entirety, except for the final track of the album. However, the audio is not actually live. It is simply the studio recording played over the video. The DVD also features a photo gallery of the recording sessions of Come Clarity. The album was originally entitled Crawl Through Knives, intended for release in the summer or early fall of 2005. The song "Take This Life" is included in the game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a bonus song. Music Videos were Made for "Take This Life" & "Come Clarity". On some programs, tracks are listed incorrectly such as Reflect The End, Crawling Through Knives & "Versus Terminus" as End of All Things.
14. A Sense of Purpose A Sense of Purpose is the ninth studio album by melodic death metal band In Flames. The album was released in Europe on April 4, 2008 through Nuclear Blast and through Koch Records in North America on April 1. The album was also released in a limited edition boxset version of which only 1500 copies were made. This release became available on the same day as the European release. The lead single The Mirror's Truth was officially released on March 7, 2008. The album also received a Parental Advisory label[4], making the album the only In Flames album to have explicit lyrics since Lunar Strain except for the song "Watch Them Feed" from their Trigger EP. The album is the first studio album since Clayman to feature the band's logo, the "Jester Head", on the cover art. The song "The Chosen Pessimist" is the longest recorded In Flames song. On April 10, the album debuted at #1 on the official Swedish album chart. It also debuted at #28 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and has since sold 37,400 copies. On the limited edition of the album, the bonus DVD that comes with the CD is a 160 minute making of the album documentary. In the documentary, it is stated that they recorded 17 songs and there are only 12 on the album and another 3 on the single. This makes 2 previously unknown songs that have not been released yet. In honor of the launch of the album, In Flames launched a special fansite that uses the In Flames icon, the "Jester Head". The artwork for the album cover was done by Alex Pardee, who has created all the cover art for The Used and Aiden's Conviction. I shall add more later.
Sleepless again is a good song.
My favorite album would probably be The Jester Race, but everything else is pretty good too.
Come Clarity is my favourite song. Love the solo.
Got all the albums. Fucking awesome band. I like Pinball Map a lot.
Whoracle is probably my favourite album.
I live about 2 miles form their studio, I saw the singer a couple of months ago standing talking to some random teenage chicks.
My favorite band of all time. A Sense of Purpose is also a fucking amazing.
Amazing band... Anders' voice is incomparable.
Fuck yeah! Touch of Red is my jam. Soundtrack to Your Escape is my favorite.
I've heard everything they've done except Lunar Strain and STYE and I own Subterranean and Reroute To Remain. Subterranean is my favorite album of their's even though it's an EP.
In Flames we trust.
Been listening to a lot of Soundtrack to Your Escape and Reroute to Remain lately, I pretty much have grown up on those two albums and they hold a lot of nostalgia whenever I listen to them. I think like a lot of people I'm not really a fan of their newer stuff, but I admire and respect the fact that after all these years they're still staying strong and willing to try something new. Definitely a band that is incomparable to any other band in my opinion.
I love In Flames, they're the bad that got me into death metal
Any album up to Colony works for me. LAter on they suck.
Shut up his dreads are awesome. If you don't like them don't post in the thread.
Oh so this thread is only for the fans? It's a public forum - let everyone have their say! Personally, I don't like them. Some of the older stuff was okay, but not so much nowadays.
Shut up his dreads are awesome. If you don't like them don't post in the thread.
I can't post in an In Flames thread if I think dreads in general are gross? Makes perfect sense! :V
Anders is a whiny bitch. And dreads are fucking gross.
Hey man, why all the hate?
In my opinion, In Flames were the kings of melodic death metal back in the day, I still think their old stuff beats out At The Gates and Dark Tranquility. The new stuff is catchy, but their older works were nothing short of amazing.
