Wonder what the big plan is.
Hungary's gas pipeline operator, FGSZ, says it has suspended delivery of gas to neighbouring Ukraine "indefinitely".
Ukraine has been receiving gas from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia since Russia cut off supplies to Ukraine in June in a dispute over unpaid bills.
Ukrainian state gas firm Naftogaz confirmed the stoppage, saying it was "unexpected and unexplained".
FGSZ said it had acted to raise the flow of gas to Hungary, due to an expected increase in demand.
With winter approaching fears are mounting that Ukraine will be unable to heat homes and power industry without Russian gas.
Russian and Ukrainian energy ministers are meeting in Berlin for EU-brokered talks, aimed at heading off such a crisis.

Hungary's move came three days after a meeting in Budapest between the head of Russian gas giant Gazprom, Alexei Miller, and Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban.
Prime Minister Orban has been critical of EU sanctions on Russia and has maintained a closer relationship with Moscow than his western European neighbours.
Big brother Russia-san said so. So I must do Ukraine-chan
It's going to be a long Ukrainian winter.
I don't like my governments "in-bed-with Russia" policy, they prolly just want to keep cutting the bills that is why they have to continue this failed policy, even though I voted onto them I didn't think they would be this foolish to support the Russians when they invaded Ukraine.
There is no big plan. This is what most likely happened:
"Either we cut the gas supply towards the Ukraine, or Russia will stop supplying us"
The answer was obvious
Orban is a damned fascist. Just him saying that "the chinese capitalism is better then ours" and worshiping Putin should raise many questions. If it goes on like this, hungary will become like Albania under Henver Hoča: isolated, broken and paranoid.
hungry for gas joke
Not saying this isn't motivated by the Russian attitude towards Ukraine, but how is Ukraine going to pay for gas from other countries when they couldn't pay for Russia's, even at discounted prices?
Does that mean that we can finally invade Hungary again?

How bout no
Does that mean that we can finally invade Hungary again?
Get in the line

... all of which are supplied by Russia

The condition of Hungary is pretty bad it's getting like China and/or NK. One of my closer friends in Hungary is getting screwed up the ass by this all.
This seems to be a common recurence when economies go into recession and incomes fall. It happened in post wwI Germany, Italy and Russia. It's getting heating up in parts of Europe now aswell.
Come to think of it, it doesn't seem like a big surprise that a group like ISIS has gained track after years of NATO fighting in Iraq, arab revolutions and syrian rebelion.
It certainly isn't that bad in europe, but it's starting to be, at least in frozen-conflict zones of the ex USSR, and Hungary might think that it can outsmart everyone and seize an "opportunity" to do whatever it intends on doing.

My girlfriend is a Hungarian emigrant, and one of the driving factors in her working class parents helping to finance her going to college in the UK was the fact that the political and economic situation in Hungary is utter shit and getting worse.

Well, sorry but "like China and/or NK" is the biggest bullshit I heard, even if politics are pretty bullshit here.
(How quaint, when the socialist government had people beaten by riot police without identification numbers in 2006, no one called fascism, but now Orbán and co. are making a fuss with the EU and suddenly that is a problem.)
When it comes to gas supply, Russia has us by the balls, like everyone else in this part of Europe. Plus right before the whole mess started, the government mae a deal with Russia about expanding the country's single old Nuclear Power Plant, and they can't back out of that deal either. it's a shitty situation and they are forced to make shitty calls due to it.

Or Denmark,Netherlands, UK, Norway, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. They have 0% dependency on RU gas, whilst Italy has ~20%. RO has 25%. Germany has 40%, FR 30 or so, and the rest are prety much above 80% reliant on Gazprom.

"this part of Europe"
"this part of Europe"
Yeah, I was about to write something about Gazprom sucking my Danish renewable energy cock until I noticed that part.
You know, if you're on Ukraine's "side", you should really stop calling it The Ukraine as it is a reference to when they were under Soviet control (The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic), they dropped the article after its collapse.
"That's why the Ukraine suddenly lost its article in the last 20 years, it's a sort of linguistic independence in Europe, it's hugely symbolic."
The amount I see posts that are supporting "The Ukraine" and at the same time condemning Russia...
