There’s been endless headlines speculating about who could play the next James Bond, and now the current famous superspy has stepped forward with his thoughts on the role.
Daniel Craig spoke candidly about the role and its future in a new interview with TimeOut.
“Look, I don’t give a f—. Good luck to them,” Craig said when asked if he cared who played Bond next. “All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better.”
Right now, the blue-eyed Bond, who appears next in “Spectre,” can’t fathom doing another 007 film.
“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” Craig said. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Craig went on to say that if he were to decide to go ahead with another Bond movie that “it would only be for the money.”
Whenever he does choose to hang up the Aston Martin keys, Craig did say that he would have one bit of advice for his successor.
“Don’t be s—,” Craig said. “You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be s—.”
not surprising. i'd like to see him tackle some different projects instead of 007
It was a long time ago but I thought they wanted to do 2 more movies with Craig after Skyfall. Craig is 47 and not everyone can be Tom Cruise and do big stunts all the time so I can see his reasons. I wonder who will be next.
Well he was a pretty fucking great Bond. Godspeed.
Hope the next Bond with have a different style and charm though, for the sake of variety. A cheeky gentleman british cunt kind of guy would be a lot of fun.

I know everyone goes nuts over Idris Elba - myself included, the man exhudes class and I have no doubt in my mind that he'd nail it as Bond, but my vote goes to Tom Hiddleston.
I could totally see him nailing it as Bond too.
If someone would rather slash their wrists than take another acting job, they can't like it that much. Has he had disagreements or something with the production staff?

No, he got his bollocks smashed to bits with the knot of a wire rope.
Good, he's getting kinda old for the role anyway. Give us younger and more handsome Bond.

Not that it was heard of, but it's an easy way to cancel the current deal they have (apparently Craig has signed for 5 Bond films, meaning after Spectre there's one more)

Playing James Bond while making you an international superstar is also a future career killer. I don't see Tom Hiddleston, well respected Shakespearean actor tackling on yet another (after Marvel's Loki) role that will give him a stigma for decades to come.

Hmm in that case, I could also go with Nicholas Hoult (Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road).
It'd be a nice idea to have a "younger" Bond...
yeah I'd rather slash his wrists too to be honest

That's what producers also want - and that's why because of age, not the color of his skin, Idris Elba is a bad choice for Bond.

I agree. Our final English assessment in highschool was about comparing Craig's James Bond to Connery's James Bond, and showing how the image of masculinity has changed over the last 50 years. Long story short, new Bond is less of a womaniser and actually shows fear occasionally.
I had a moment of I wish he would be replaced by Christoph Waltz, followed by another moment of "No, maybe not, but he would be a great bond villain."
Then I looked up the next bond film. Clearly they agreed.
Christopher Waltz is the kind of guy who is just made for being a villain. Kinda like Kevin Spacey or something.
Then again Chris Waltz also really did a fucking great job in Django.

Bond is supposed to have been recruited into MI6 due to years in the armed forces, the SBS, the Royal Navy, and being really good at it that shit. Having a "younger" bond would be a stupid fucking idea, since you'd have to set it in a time period where he wasn't in MI6 and therefore straight up wasn't 007.
Didn't Daniel Craig just say he'll play 007 until he wasn't physically fit to do so

Because a Bond can't have a different backstory?
Because a Bond can't have a different backstory?
Uhh no he can't? It wouldn't be James Bond if it's a completely different character.

It's almost like people change their minds from time to time.
I think people mean around 30 when they say younger instead of 40+ years.

Oddly he's hated being bond since at least quantum of solace, plus its probably held back his career a bit, and the current set of James Bond movies took a long time to make, casino royal came out in 2006, quantum 2010, skyfall 2012, and this one 2015, so he's right in being annoyed by the restrictive contract since this is some of the best time in his career

He was under the impression he had a contract for another movie, but now it seems they've decided to finally move on, so now he can go back to saying how much he hates it
Simon Cotton who plays the latest Ronnie Kray in both the rise and the fall of the Krays would make a great Bond.
Meh. He wasn't THAT good of a James Bond actor.

To me it's both really. Idris Elba would be amazing as a 008 or some american CIA agent or someone not Bond. He could never be a Bond to me though. Similarly like I can't see a black or female doctor who.
It just doesn't fit or mesh well with the archetype I've got in my head.

How would he better to play an american CIA agent than Bond if he is british?

Elba made his name in the wire playing an American?
A lot of people at the time he made Luther didn't realise he wasn't an American.
He's too old for Bond now.
My brother-in-law has worked with Elba and he reckons he's the worst he has seen for not memorising his lines.

Why? I don't like inserting other races/females in for the sake of doing so either, but if the role can be pulled off by a female or black person then I don't see an issue.
It's probably easier in Dr Who because of how that series works, for Bond I sort of wish they'd make each new actor have a new canon but similar backstory.
Arnie Hammer or the other guy who also co starred in the UNCLE man
Any of these 2 would fit a "younger" Bond

then you're an incredibly unimaginative person lol
