I liked it minus some of the out of place stuff in it.
Disappointing for a Half Life fan.
the effects were the the only thing that saved it.

everyone knows about the aperture science light fixture, it's like their most renowned invention
And this, ladies and gents, is how you DON'T make a Half-Life movie.
I was liking it fine until this fucker showed up.

I could barely watch it after this stupid shit happened.
Rule one of half-life and they got it wrong, shameful.
I mean, this looks nice. But it raped the canon, why is Shepard using kung-fu? Why does a metro police unit have a samurai sword, why do the zombies not have head crabs? Why does Shepard look so young? When you say Shepard I imagine a man in his early 30's grizzled by what he sees and living with the guilt knowing that he was apart of what caused the whole mess in the first pace. Also, who are the girl and the fat Asian kid? What are their names? There's no characterization at all, and it's nothing but droning monologue that barely keeps me interested. I mean it's the typical "The Combine came, saw, conquered. Rebellion is in taters, no hope left, but there are those that continue to fight on" speech. I'm tired of seeing fanmade "ACTION BAM BAM OH LOOK AN EXPLOSION! FAST PACED RUNNING!" films.
The Purchase Brother's did it right. It was beautifully shot, the CG if not a tad bit iffy at times was great and they got the look of the metropolice right. From the start you see what horrible condition City 17 is in without some boring "shit hit the fan" monologue. It unfolds before your eyes. The burnt out city, the Citadel ready to take the biggest crap in it's life and engulf a few kilometers of land in all directions, the Striders blowing shit up, and Civil Protection casually executing 3 rebels without remorse showing just how insensitive they are.
Then you are presented by the two main characters. They speak, and argue obviously showing that they're frustrated and desperate for an escape. Then the Combine appear, they work through the maze of train cars, covering each other and constantly putting their life on the line showing how long they've known each other, and how strong their bond is. The last thing you see is them being chased by a Hunter-Chopper and leaving it on a cliff hanger. This leaves a sense of discomfort for the viewer knowing that our two heroes are staring death in the face.
Though to be honest the only liberties I really take is how the zombies look, and how the rebel uniforms look. Unless your a zombine a zombie is going to look different, with the only similarity being what Headcrab you have on you. And for the rebel outfits I hardly believe every rebel in the city will have the SAME EXACT UNIFORM considering they were thrown together in a moments notice.
I wrote this not the spite you, or destroy any dreams you have in cinematography. I mean, judging on you film alone you guys have a lot of potential. But I wrote this to better you people.
But now in retrospect I have a feeling the people who produced this short film will never see this post.
/rant.
still waiting for the second escape from city 17
Oh god this was freaking awesome.

Thanks for the analysis on the Purchase Brothers' film.
The ending was kinda sad too. But I mean like, man, Adrian Shephard wouldn't give up THAT easy!
Other than that, I liked it.

What the fuck is that.
L4D zombies in the half-life universe?
Fuck if i'm watching this film now.
My reaction was 'meh'
I couldn't do any better
but even so, it might as well have not been half-life.
I think that was pretty good, if you pretend you've never played the Half Life series.

- The gas masks are all wrong.
- The zombies are all wrong.
- The combine weapons are all wrong.
- Really? a combine with a katana?
It's like they made this and remembered it's meant to be based in the half life universe after
I laughed hysterically at the fat asian rebel
Did anyone for a second think that the title said Black Mesa Source?
Shit film.
Good job ignoring your source material completely, I thought a independent group would have the sense to stick close but no this is even worse than the Max Payne film.
i loved it, nice effects and camera work. sure the asian guy's acting was terrible but i still enjoyed it.

L4D zombies, combine kung-fu, and stereotypical high-tech asians? Since when was all this in the HL universe?
