It's kind of like shooting yourself in the foot when you beat up some important dude while the nation willing to invade parts of your country is using the same allegations to demonize your country. Not that I'm implying that this is government-supported, but it's still shooting yourself in the foot.

I agree that saying stupid shit like "my country is better than yours nah nah nah" is stupid, but having a bit of pride of your nation and its achievements is perfectly fine. It's when it becomes a hate of other nations that it clearly is too much nationalism. And before you start, I totally agree with you that it should be handled with care, for it is very easy to end up with way too much nationalism.

I believe these "far right fascists" are agent-provocateurs. meaning they are russians working to discredit the ukrainian government. I wouldn't doubt if they incited the original riot for this purpose, and they will continue to be the "scourge" that all russians(even the new ones) can agree need to be destroyed (and if the rest of ukraine becomes more russia, who's complaining, right*evillaugh.wav*)

I don't see "we're not given the independence we need to live a fulfilled life" as nationalism. I see nationalism as focusing on the rights and operation of the country and it's native people to the detriment of those considered outsiders or foreign. Wanting independence because you're being taken advantage of by a larger government structure doesn't strike me as specific to any political ideology.
