So, today I felt like recording, so I tried to cover "Breaking the Law". It's kind of (very) crappy, but I'm still very proud. However, when I wake up tomorrow I'll probabl hate it, but that's just the way I am. Watch it on youtube! It's also on my Soundcloud. So, tell me what you think, give me your honest and brutal opinion.
It sounds fine to be honest, your tone is alright and it's a pretty solid cover. You ARE allowed to make mistakes by the way. It just lets the internet know it's actually a live recording. I did notice how little you use your pinky finger, it a very common thing. I'd say work on that, it looks like you are stretching to hit some of the notes sometimes, using that 4th finger helps a lot. Other than that, good job man.
Well, you asked for an honest and brutal opinion and that's what you'll get. Before I go into this, your actual playing isn't THAT bad. Problem though is the way you play the song. You seemed to simplify it even though it's already very simple as you said on YT. Though simplification isn't as much of a problem as playing the song wrong. For example in the second verse where the chords are diferent than in the first one and it is pretty noticable. In the chorus where you have that little slide down from E--------- B--10----- G---9----- you don't actually do a slide which makes the song a bit dull. As I said, your playing isn't that bad, but if you're doing a cover there is some stuff in every song that you can't leave out. Take care and stay METAL! \m/-_-\m/ (I can't do any better than a sleepy metal dude :P)
