In a brief statement on social media, he said both returned safely to their base in the United Arab Emirates. "2 F/A-18F completed 1st armed combat mission in Iraq. No munitions expended. Returned safely to base," he tweeted. A statement from the Australian Defence Force confirmed the mission, saying the "aircraft conducted an air interdiction and close air support mission over northern Iraq overnight". That's a really pretty picture in the op. It's nice that we are at least using them after dropping so much money on them.
I still miss the F111's, the drop and burns they did in Brisbane were awesome I live close to Amberley airbase, the biggest RAAF base in Australia. As a great coincidence they have to fly over our area to get back from Brisbane to Ipswich. So when we watched TV of them flying over Brisbane we went outside and 5 seconds later they came flying over doing a drop and burn. Super Hornets don't do that :(
well shit, who hasn't bombed syria now?
well shit, who hasn't bombed syria now?
Australia.. Since they haven't bombed anyone yet, and the mission was in Iraq.
Were the bombs filled with Huntsman spiders by chance?
Were the bombs filled with Huntsman spiders by chance?
Thats a trade secret
But can Super Hornets do lethal flame farts like the Aardvark? People jump through hoops to defend an obviously outdated plane. But in the end, do you really think the military of all people wouldn't know what they're talking about, in regards to warfare?
Were the bombs filled with Huntsman spiders by chance?
And do they have 'Straya Cunt written on the side?

Not to forget they have a much larger combat radius & bigger payload than the Super Hornets that replaced them. They could have even done what the Argentinians have done to old A-4 Skyhawks and add some new electronics and slightly redesign the fuselage to implement a gun (seeing as the F-111's closest soviet rival is the Su-24). Yes it may be good that the Super Hornets are multirole but we're already planning for their retirement once the F-35's start shipping (if they ship at all really)
And do they have 'Straya Cunt written on the side?
We need JDAM's that say 'Thunder Down Under'.
If you wana know why we got rid of the F111's look up the deseal reseal program.
for a moment, i thought the thread title read 'Australian Super Hornets fighting jets"
Wasn't the F111 used as a electronic countermeasure plane before
for a moment, i thought the thread title read 'Australian Super Hornets fighting jets"
You should be scared, as it could one day be a non-sensationalist headline.
