I can safely say that I recognize #1. It got a whole lot of flak but I didn't understand why. This explains it better.

Most of these cut alternate endings I was unaware of. I was only aware of #2 and #1's alternate endings I can see why a good chunk of them were cut (ex: being pointless, making no sense, not matching the tone of the rest of the respective film, etc.)

With #2's ending, it's a matter of preference in this case. Some consider the cut darker ending to be the "true" ending as it was the original vision of the creative team and that they were forced to cut it because the test screening audience thought it was too dark and depressing.

I don't know why he's going wtf either, it's established early on by Perez and Johner that Sol system is literally an intergalactic garbage dump, which is why Perez is hiding out there to begin with.
