“Frozen” is returning to Epcot in a big way. After much rumor and speculation, today Walt Disney World has announced and confirmed that a new “Frozen” ride is officially coming. “I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new ‘Frozen’ attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot,” wrote Tom Staggs on the Disney Parks Blog. “The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film.” Also included will be a new meet-and-greet for Anna and Elsa in Norway. The last day of operation for Maelstrom is Oct. 5, 2014. The new “Frozen” attraction is expected to be completed by early 2016. The Norway pavilion will remain open in the meantime. But none of that will compare to the excitement and hype that will surely surround the upcoming “Frozen” ride. This time Disney will prepare Epcot properly for “Frozen” fever. The Maelstrom boat ride in Epcot’s Norway pavilion has been a long-standing favorite for many Disney fans, repeatedly going “back, back, over the falls.” But despite some Disney fans proclaiming that adding the hit animated film to Epcot’s World Showcase ruins its original intent and theme, “Frozen” fans will no doubt flock to the park as soon as it opens for a chance to sail through Arendelle for the first time in forever.
Source. It is a real shame that Maelstrom is closing, but all the signs were pointing to its fate. I mentioned this (when it was a rumor) in the last Disney related thread I created, and some people refused to believe it. May this attraction live on in our hearts and the internet:
Guess you're just going to have to let it go.
FUCK!
"Do not let go of the handrails, even if Elsa tells you to."
My mums fave ride..she's gonna be pissed Mine died long ago when they decided to put those annoying mexican parrots in the mayan temple ride. Now instead of anything to do with cultures we have to listen to those shits screaming "DOONAAALLL..WHEER ARE YOU DONAAAALLLL" the whole way through the ride Its a little disappointing to me that the park designed for future technologies and worldwide communities is slowly giving way to just being another Disney park where there's not a single thing that doesn't involve a character
One less reason to go around the world showcase, it's more or less gift shops and resturaunts now, with the exception of Mexico.
One less reason to go around the world showcase, it's more or less gift shops and resturaunts now, with the exception of Mexico.
Epcot got The Three Caballeros forcefully put into the ride in Mexico a few years back.
Too bad, I've never had a chance to ride onto any of those before.
Fuck I really want a funnel cake now
Would it be safe to call Disney an empty shell of itself? Because that's what it feels like right now with them ruining EPCOT and shoving Frozen shit everywhere.
Would it be safe to call Disney an empty shell of itself? The era when Pixar was the only worthwhile thing they had
Epcot isn't the right place for this ride at all, they really should have just made an addition to Magic Kingdom. Epcot was supposed to be about our history, getting a taste of another culture, and seeing the possibilities of the future. Eventually all the parks are going to be a mishmash of crap that doesn't fit.

This kinda pisses me off. My girlfriend and I went to Disney for the first time together and I witness as she meets her online Norwegian friend for the first time in her life (they've been talking for years about art and stuff). They're both really big on Norwegian history and really love the fact that Disney supplies actual history in their worlds areas. It was definitely a magic Disney moment that day. And then this shit happens.
I sort of saw this coming when I was there in February and they had a Frozen character-meet thing in that area..
Would it be safe to call Disney an empty shell of itself? They should make a Frozen themed ride; but being placed in Epcot makes no sense at all. Why not Magic Kingdom?
Help they wont stop fornicating with the ride
eh shoul just be in magic kingdom. not that bad of an idea for a ride i guess
One less reason to go around the world showcase, it's more or less gift shops and resturaunts now, with the exception of Mexico.
what do you mean now when was epcot something other than that
Help they wont stop fornicating with the ride
Fuck you i do what i want!
Is it a big deal? I mean can someone tell me if the ride is actually any good because the video looks just a bit boring
NO. When I went to Disney World, I loved the Around the World area at Epcot. I really wanted to go on Maelstrom but it was under maintenance at the time, so I never got to ride it... :c
So, will you be able to see Walt Disney poking out of a stalagmite?
They should make a Frozen themed ride; but being placed in Epcot makes no sense at all. Why not Magic Kingdom?
Because Maelstrom hasn't been popular recently and is aging quite a bit, and they already have the entire ride basically built except for the decorations they choose. Disney is a business so it seems they are just trying to save costs.
Is it a big deal? I mean can someone tell me if the ride is actually any good because the video looks just a bit boring
It sort of is and does, in all honesty, need a replacement or a serious revamp. But its more the part about a Frozen ride in epcot..completely randomly placed thats has me annoyed God forbid america has anything cultural for five seconds before micky mouse/donald duck/the three caballero's/insert character here has to appear to explain what we are looking at and hold our hands through the whole experience They modified test track (pleasantly surprised with that actually but still preferred the last one better) completely ruined the mexican boat ride For some reason brought back the very-odd-by-todays-standards captain EZO (why? ..because MJ died?) Bodged up Journey into Imagination (actually think it's ok but others i know waaay preffered the older one without the musical theme I swear to god if they TOUCH Spaceship earth i'm gonna napalm the place and start over myself with a land cleansed of impurities
Epcot is pretty boring for a theme park, only thing that was worth seeing there was the closing show which was amazing. The car ride would of been too but I stood in line for 4 hours just to get on it. Of course science is always awesome, but I can go to the science museum and not get ripped off and not pay outrageous prices and not have to deal with all the people
Bodged up Journey into Imagination (actually think it's ok but others i know waaay preffered the older one without the musical theme
When you get a chance, look up the original Journey into Imagination from the 80s on YouTube. It had a musical theme to it but it was also much superior to the two versions after it plus it had a semi-fantasy theme.
Disney usually does a nice job updating their parks and rides, but the "update" to Test Track was really horrible. I get that they wanted to update the theme, but they literally replaced every part of the interior section with neon light strips and electronic sound effects. It's soulless. I really hope they keep the theming light for this new ride, but I doubt it. What a shame.
Maybe if they play up the cultural side if it a lot. I went to a lecture by the guy that did a lot of the 2d animation etc, and they looked to Nordic influences a lot, from the patterns on the doorways to the curls in elsa's magic.
