I love pavlova, Its the best cake ever. Fruit with cream and stuff... and the crispy crust.
Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballet dancer Ánna Pávlova. Colloquially referred to as "pav", it is a cake similar to meringue with a crispy crust and soft, light inner.
The dessert is a popular dish and an important part of the national cuisine of Australia and New Zealand, and is frequently served during celebratory or holiday meals such as Christmas lunch.

How to make the best cake ever (Pavlova)
TRADITIONAL PAVLOVA
4-6 egg whites
pinch salt
8oz castor sugar/sugar (equal parts)
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 level teaspoons cornflour
(Please note the following equivalents:
castor sugar or fine/super fine sugar
corn flour or cornstarch)
Preheat oven to 400F(200C).
Lightly grease oven tray, line with baking paper or use non-stick cooking spray.
Beat the whites of eggs with a pinch of salt until stiff (until peaks form).
Continue beating, gradually adding sugar, vinegar and vanilla, until of thick consistency.
Lightly fold in cornflour.
Pile mixture into circular shape, making hollow in centre for filling.
(Mixture will swell during cooking)
Electric oven: turn oven to 250F (130C) and bake undisturbed for 1 1/2 hours.
Gas oven: bake at 400F (200C) for ten minutes, then turn oven to 250F (130C) and bake a further hour.
(Fan forced oven: temperature and time needs to be adjusted accordingly.)
Turn oven off, leave pavlova in oven until cool.
Top with whipped cream and decorate with fruit as desired.

That looks disgusting
Your just saying that because theres fruit on it.
Someone fucked up the top cake, look at those cracks, horrible.
But yeah, Pavlova is an awesome cake, however, it can get a bit too sweet for me.

But it's what's on top that counts.
Pavlova tastes alright by itself, but is a little too sugar tasting (I don't mean the sweetness, it's more that it tastes too much like sugar). All the fresh fruit on top really brings it all together and makes it feel slightly healthy (even though it most likely isn't).
Glad you mentioned both NZ and Aussie.
I'm an NZer, but I don't care much for the war between New Zealand and Australia about who invented the Pavlova first. I just know it tastes great apparently. (Looks great too.)
Never heard about it before, it does have a good look but I don't really like cakes with so much on it.
I've never heard of it, but now that I have, I WANT ONE.
I don't like cakes with loads of fruits. They leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
the bottom bit is called meringue... I get the feeling people aren't realizing this... its important.... its freaking pimp with chocolate chips by itself.
ehh i don't really enjoy pavlova even though i'm from nz.

Pavlova was created by New Zealanders.
To all you guys wondering what it is, its very nice and essentially the main body just tastes like sugar. ITS AMAZING.
Tasted one some time. Nice, but I still prefer the Sacher. Chocogasm.
I'd probably throw up eating the first one.
Second seems awesome though.
I don't eat cake.
Just ate some, Was left over from a birthday party last night.

You don't like fruit?
Wait, how is this incredible, I thought this was like a widely known dish?
Oh god, the top one looks delicious.
Fruit is awesome.
So long as there's no passionfruit, I love it.
So long as there's no passionfruit, I love it.
Really? I love passionfruit
Passion fruit is delicious.
But I would say tropical mousse is the best cake.
Anyone here had Baklava.
Its a Greek desert, it is thin pastry on top, covered in syrup and ground pistachio nuts underneath.
Amazing.
The only problem with passion fruit on the ones around here is that they dont cut the skin off the side of the pieces. So im constantly picking apart the sides
