BEIJING –With days to go before the United States debt default deadline, Beijing aired its frustrations with the shutdown Sunday, saying it was time to consider a “de-Americanized” world order.
With $1.28 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, China is easily the biggest foreign holder of American debt.
China has also funneled billions of dollars into private American investments – to the tune of an estimated $54 billion in 2012 alone.
“As U.S. politicians of both political parties are still shuffling back and forth between the White House and the Capitol Hill without striking a viable deal to bring normality to the body politic they brag about, it is perhaps a good time for the befuddled world to start considering building a de-Americanized world,” according to a stinging op-ed article by state news agency, Xinhua.

I agree, honestly, we are so caught up in Americas asshole that if they default everyone will sink, I wouldn't mind if the EU replaced the US as a super power.
China is huge but idk if that would be a suitable superpower, I mean they have a great economy something America could never build but idk
Biggest holder of foreign debt, which isn't much compared to overall domestic debt.
If any country could 'de-Americanize' the world, it has to be China.
Hell, the US is indebted to China. :v:
I wouldn't mind if the EU replaced the US as a super power.
The EU? How about China.
What America needs is a single-party system to be more like China and never face another shutdown again!
I wonder how long it would take the Chinese to sieze control of America if they invaded...
I'm talking a full on invasion; cause it seems the world is gettin' tired of our shit.
[editline]15th October 2013[/editline]
Also I have no doubt that they could if that were to actually happen; it's just a matter of how long.
It's virtually impossible. American civilians have too many guns.
you'd have to consider what type of chinese influence you're looking at; beijing is bureaucratic autism, shanghai is psudo american, while canton is do chillout everyday
But they have too many people.
And the US has too many allies.
China against the might of NATO?
Also, I have no doubt that they could if that were to actually happen and they were serious about it; it's just a matter of how long.
No, they couldn't.
They would be invading at least 3 countries at once, and would be at odds with practically everyone except Russia and North Korea, I am not even sure if Russia would be on their side for that.
You can't just put *hypothetically* and expect the idea to go unchallenged.
The EU? How about China.
Come on, are we actually saying China is a better choice for a primary world superpower than the EU? Look what holding as much power as they already do has done to them. The EU is a bit of a mess at the moment but that's nothing that can't be solved. China's problems are much more complex. I'm not sure a world where the most powerful country takes the 'best' (read worst) parts of both capitalism and communism would be a great place.
And the US has too many allies.
China against the might of NATO?
I don't think a good deal of those NATO countries would openly go to war with China.
China for New World Order 2014!

but seriously. It seems like China has nowhere to go but up economically. Europe on the other hand is in a different situation.

Saying America is on the same tier of corruption as China is laughable at best.
Honestly, call me a cynic but I'm surprised we haven't seen a major country-country clash in this century yet. I'm already holding my bets on a nuclear exchange between two countries by 2040, though.
wtf are you guys even talking about war for????? if you even read the article and even consider reading the chinese article that was linked, you'd realise this isn't about fuckin "taking over"
i think if you skimmed a bit and scrolled all the way down you'd see:

Of course, the purpose of promoting these changes is not to completely toss the United States aside, which is also impossible. Rather, it is to encourage Washington to play a much more constructive role in addressing global affairs.
I too am looking forward to the upcoming nuclear apocalypse.

Facepunch always talks about China belligerently taking over the US due to economic woes, long before the current government crisis.

Big country-country clashes haven't happened since WWII because it isn't really economical for them to occur.

Proxy wars, all the way!
We ought to invade North Korea again. That'll ease Chinese-American tensions :v:

You do realize that Russia, China and the USA are in a sort of nuclear mexican standoff, right? Nobody is going to launch, almost entirely because it's gonna lead to them getting badly fucked up in return. NK is just flexing their (nearly invisible) muscles, if they were stupid enough to not realize that they'd cease to exist, then they'd have launched nukes already.
You do realize that Russia, China and the USA are in a sort of nuclear mexican standoff, right?
They have no interest in nuking each other at all. Its not like the cold war.
Facepunch always talks about China belligerently taking over the US due to economic woes, long before the current government crisis.
yeah nah no shit
and of course you gotta play the patriot and defend your country to every marginal difference
you do realise that even chinese believe their government is just crap, and its pointless acting out about it because it's just a load of old men with different values struggling for power?
Down with America, up with Facepunch Governments, Ltd.
They have no interest in nuking each other at all. Its not like the cold war.
I must've been thinking of something else, but the principle of MAD still exists. Nobody is going to push the button because that would be the same as shooting yourself in the face. There may be nobody who wants to launch, but MAD is still the key deterrent to an attack. It's pretty much why NK hasn't launched any nukes(or rather trucked it over to be set off in SK).
If any country could 'de-Americanize' the world, it has to be China.

China meanwhile is entirely dependent upon the United States' debt in order to continue to manage its economic growth and (poor) levels of stability (and I mean they really are barely stable; if you think we're in a mess, look at how their banks shift money around between one another to try and keep from going under). Like the article points out, that's why they keep on buying bonds from us.
We're bound together now, and neither of us is going anywhere. That's how simple it is.
I wonder how long it would take the Chinese to sieze control of America if they invaded...

*hypothetically*
They couldn't even invade hypothetically in the first place. They just don't possess the massive amount of naval power that would be required to do so compared to us at this point in time. And then there's the issues they'd have with NATO, their own economic collapse which would be caused from a war with us.
It's just not going to happen.
You're also assuming that if we were somehow miraculously put in that kind of a desperate situation we wouldn't just resort to using nuclear weapons against them and be done with it. Nobody wins in that case.
The EU? How about China.
China isn't a suitable superpower, they have a fantastic economy but their human rights + political system is balls
IMO The EU looks way better in my eyes, they are run by people who seem to know what they're doing and seem they can manage their money both domestically and internationally way better than the US
The EU? How about China.
fuck china
