Because supermodel = wealthy, thus potential for a good amount to obtain as ransom. You wouldn't even need to threaten to kill - just a bottle of acid to the face should be enough to make people cough up. From what I've been told from friends in the country, kidnapping the wealthy or their children is a fairly widespread racket run by the underworld there.
As disgusting as it is, I would not be surprised if they also found evidence of rape while conducting the post mortem.
