My general consensus is that, it's what I feared. Another Amnesia clone, in outer space. The game doesn't have tense moments. It has shock scares. Loud noises creating a tense atmosphere has been done so much, that anyone who has played video games before. I think most have become accustomed to this type of game. After watching all of the video, regretfully watching all of the peoples idiotic reactions, I must say that .. I don't think this is going to be all that great of an Alien game.
I mean, it won't/can't be worse than Colonial Marines. It does look rather nice, graphically, and they have all of the atmosphere going for them. Just the gameplay, doesn't seem all that different from what we're used to seeing in these types of games. You hide in a locker for awhile(even though the Alien has saw you), and your woes disappear? Come on. This crap has to stop. The original Alien was fucking smart, it adapted, it familiarized itself with the ship, and decimated the crew except for Ripley. Yet in this game, it seems like your average joe horror creature.
"Huh.. The thing I just saw in front of me, 2 seconds, disappeared!" Lockers are all around it "I wonder where they went..."
Though, I do have to admit. They did a good job making the Alien sound very threatening, and the death animations look well done.
It looks good to me
Seems like Outlast in Alien universe. I liked that game although it main gameplay feature was avoiding enemy until you found another progress button/prompt/tunnel.
It looks good but for fucks sakes there was zero need to transfer majority of the screen between the game and those god damn face cams. So annoying.

I'll reserve judgement until I actually play the game, rather than sway my opinion off a PR piece which highlights some flashy moments from an indeterminate part of the game.
None of this bothers me, because in terms of the genre, this is how they advertise horror films, and it's the only way they know how to advertise horror games.
It's not an open world game. It's a linear, story driven game. It's using nearly the same formula as Half Life and every other singleplayer FPS before it - especially in the horror genre. And as much as people like to hold up Amnesia as some beacon of original brilliance in horror, the game uses mechanics that have been present in Horror since the beginning of time. Indeed, the gameplay of Amnesia is incredibly similar (relatively, mind you) to that of Clock Tower (EDIT: which came out in 1995!).
I expect that, despite the fact that Alien: Isolation the glorious 100% original of wonder and orgasmic golden kidney stones that people hoped it would be, it will not fall short of my expectations - because I intend to go to into the game to relish in the experience of the story, the atmosphere and the gameplay, rather than drag other games through it.
That way, even if the game isn't a hallmark of artistic brilliance and originality, I will still be able to enjoy it for what it is; a high quality horror game in one of my favorite sci-fi universes.
And even if it's terrible - well, at least I reserved judgement.
EDIT: Forgot to say that the reason that Amnesia was good wasn't because it was original, but because it combined some of the best features of previous games into a formula which worked extremely well. No wonder more companies are making Amnesia-style games; it's fun, scary, and it works well. And it's something that companies have been doing since gaming first began. I've heard people complaining that SOMA will be too similar to Amnesia, and yet they're clamoring for Deus Ex 4 and Half Life 3. Jesus.

that's... kind of exactly what I wanted and expected. I don't really give a shit if a movie franchise game is innovating gameplay I just want a scary ass game based on Alien.

sure you got the right game? last time I played Amnesia it was pretty tense, can't recall any jump scares from when I played it.
Following Amnesia's formula isn't exactly a bad thing, though it has a lot of elements from "Outlast" that seem more like it than Amnesia.
This is exactly the way I always wanted to play an Alien game. It's fine to approach Alien from an action perspective, blowing them away with smartguns and flamethrowers, but it's not very "scary".
Being utterly defenseless, trapped with an enemy that WILL kill you in a direct conflict, is what real fear is about. Slipping past them, holding your breath hoping they don't find your hiding place. Seeing them slink out of sight, and then wonder... HOPE they've really gone, and aren't just holding still around the corner, waiting for you to reveal yourself.
Whether the story is any good, it has the elements of an experience I've wanted since I watched the original movie, and nothing is going to stop me playing this one.
This looks scary as fuck! I wonder if they'll eventually add Occulus support to it.
Fun to watch, however, IGN are paid to show you what they want you to see. :)
Hope it has some multiple paths in it in order to get to your objectives, rather than the same one directional breadcrumb stuff.
yo im pretty sure the alien was able to sniff out people in the movies especially if they were hiding under a table

This is what happens when you adapt a cinematic situation for a game. Concessions need to be made so the player doesn't get completely fucked.

hello

I don't trust this video one bit, the game itself looks nice but this is IGN after all.
Jesus Christ, that one segment where it literally started to sprint at you got me
yo im pretty sure the alien was able to sniff out people in the movies especially if they were hiding under a table
Well it wouldn't be fair at all if they were able to wallhack like that
I like how it looks like it's a camera on her head.
Even if the story turns out to be bad, at least it looks gorgeous. It looks movie quality.

I disagree with this, just because it hasn't been done right yet.
Imagine a game where you command a squad of colonial marines and get dropped into a campaign with limited resources and where you or your squad mates can be killed by the aliens, and that's it. Maybe you can switch between each marine to avoid getting a game over from one death - but just think about how tense and scary that could be, especially if you have to send out some men and they start getting picked off one-by-one and their camera feeds go out.
That could make a game about shooting aliens scary. Of course, some people may already know what I'm talking about.

at least they actually had someone play the game

One of the few jumpscares in the original to be fair. Most of the horror of the original was really well paced. The tension is what felt scary, the game didn't feel cheap except for those sections.
A Machine for Pigs though, is cheap and jumpscary.

While I don't think a game is instantly bad because of these things, I do think it would be nice for enemies to be able to tell what locker you are in if they see you enter it.
Moreso, if the alien cornered you in the locker, maybe there could be an action to swing the door in its face and stun it, giving you a head start to run?
"Why's this girl in every locker? She's like, everybody's boyfriend?"
I recall them saying in the past that sometimes the alien would just rip open the locker and sometimes it'd pass by
Maybe they made the beginning easier in response to the RPS article where the guy was complaining about it being too hard

But it had a good story and wonderful voice acting.
This video is basically exactly like the Outlast one and they overreacted on the Outlast one so badly.

I'll take a damned good looking Amnesia clone repainted in Alien universe over whatever the hell the last couple of Alien games have been every time.
Does this have Rift support? If so, I'm not going to play it until I get mine.
But it had a good story and wonderful voice acting.
I thought the story was dull and too straightforward personally.
Also even with the most dynamic enemy types I'd be a little disappointed if a horror game didn't have at least some memorable scripted moments.
I don't know why people are comparing it to amesia, this looks much like the originial movies.
