The rubiks cube..

First invented in 1974 and then sold in 1980 by Ernő Rubik. It is the world's top selling puzzle, having sold 350 million units as of january 2009. SpeedCubing: (A wikipedia definition) "Speedcubing (or speedsolving) is the practice of trying to solve a Rubik's Cube in the shortest time possible. There are a number of speed cubing competitions that take place around the world." I have been speed cubing for almost 2 months now, and I average around 40 seconds. To a non cuber, that time may seem really fast. In reality, It is actually averagish/slow. The current world record on the 3x3x3 is 7 seconds. THE HARDWARE(Common Speed Cubes) When you first start out cubing, a store bought rubik's brand cube will suffice. Once you know the standard method well enough, and can get decent times you should maybe think of investing in one of the DIY cubes. DIY ALPHA TYPE I The first DIY Cube, Everything about it is the same except for the core, and the centers. The centers have something called a "center cap" on them which is removeable. When removed, it reveals a screw. When tightened, the tension of that side will increase. When the tension is lowered, the cube can cut corners much easier then a store bought cube, achieving faster times. This is my current cube (mine is black) but I am ordering an Alpha Type V. DIY FII This cube's edge and corner peices are very different from a store bought cube. The edges have indents, "rails" and other designs to prevent popping(When a piece comes off of the cube), and improve speed. I do not own an FII but from what I hear, the cube has a very "Buttery" feel. You can buy one from here: http://www.popbuying.com/detail.pb/sku.27101 DIY ALPHA TYPE V The above image shows the modified pieces of a Type V. I don't have an AV yet, but it is shipping here. The main difference that I have heard about from the FII is that it is much more "Clicky" and is good for doing short fast bursts of algorithms. You can buy one here: http://popbuying.com/detail.pb/sku.25261 LUBRICATION :q: If you want your cube to turn smoothly and quickly, you will need to lube it with a silicone based spray. In Canada, you can mostly only get jig-a-loo. I have used it a bunch of times and it is a very good lubricant. WARNING: if jigaloo isn't "worked in" enough, it can melt some of the pieces together, making them stuck and most likely destroying your cube. METHODS Standard Method This is how most people first learn how to solve the rubik's cube. It doesn't require the memorization of many algorithms, and you can learn it pretty easily in a few days. Badmephisto has some good videos on it: This PDF Here also is good for learning, it contains all the algorithms you need to know, and some explanations. Fridrich Basically the Fridrich method reduces the amount of steps to solve, but increases the amount of algorithms you need to memorize. My friend used to do this.
Cube lubrication? :mmmhmm:
Jig a loo Rubiks Lube [editline]01:22AM[/editline] rhymes with rubiks cube HAH!
Jig a loo Rubiks Lube [editline]01:22AM[/editline] rhymes with rubiks cube HAH!
omg ur funni!!!!!! :banjo:
Whenever I think of Rubix Cubes I think of Justin Beiber, because he can apparently solve them pretty fast. Specifically "Baby" plays in my head, someone help me.
Cube lubrication? :mmmhmm:
I love lubin mah cubes.
I'd say this is essentially and utterly pointless. Really the only time you would ever use it would be as a party trick.
I'd say this is essentially and utterly pointless. Really the only time you would ever use it would be as a party trick.
Aren't most hobbies pointless?
Buckyballs are much more fun and less brain-hurting than a rubiks cube. Also, they actually have some educational value.
I can do it in about 1:20, but recently i've lost my cube and am really annoyed about it. I used WD-40 for my lube and after a few days of working it in it became crazy loose.
I got the cube with six different shades of grey instead of the normal colors, so far its more difficult to learn off of.
I used to be able to solve my 3x3x3 in about 90 seconds (which isn't really that good) but I've long since lost that cube. I still have my 4x4x4 but that takes me several minutes to solve.
I love lubin mah cubes.
Want me to lube them for you? :q: [editline]b[/editline] I can solve one in 1 minute 30 seconds. Wow I suck.
rubix cubes are fun for about 3 minutes..
what deluded aspie manchild would spend the precious time in his day trying to beat the record for fastest rubix cube solving heres the inside scoop replace the stickers
this seems a little pointless
Fuck yeah! I leant how to finish a rubix cube in 1 minutes. I brought it to my school camp, At one point there was about 100 kids surrounding me while I did it...It felt so cool to be a nerd.
what deluded aspie manchild would spend the precious time in his day trying to beat the record for fastest rubix cube solving heres the inside scoop replace the stickers
but that's too slow.
The 1990's called they want their games back.
what deluded aspie manchild would spend the precious time in his day trying to beat the record for fastest rubix cube solving heres the inside scoop replace the stickers
Actually slower than speed cubing. Since you would have to peel every sticker off then sort though them and replace all the stickers on the each side to be the same colour, could take between 5 - 10 minutes depending when you time it and what method you use to peel the stickers off :v: [editline]04:00PM[/editline]
The 1990's called they want their games back.
Mr. Bean called, he wants his avatar back.
Solve this.
What the actual fuck is that thing?
Solve this.
yur so funy lawl
why would you lube a toy? disgusts me
So it's easier to turn. Trust me, it gets really annoying having a rough cube.
why would you lube a toy? disgusts me
I lube my "toys" all the time!
If you take off the stickers and replace them, you will never be able top solve that cube again, unless you put the stickers back to their original places.
No matter how much I try, I don't seem to be able to beat 1:30. I just can't move my fingers fast enough.
