A&K PKM
Comrade, do you even lift? First Impressions HUGE. This thing is seriously fucking gigantic, a full 46 3/4 inches long from the stock to the tip of the flash hider, and according to my bathroom scale, is at least 17lbs with an empty mag. Evike shipped it in a box at least 5' long. The gun itself comes in a nondescript cardboard box with a plastic carry handle. Also pictured: my asian as fuck carpet Once you open the box, you are greeted with an instruction manual with the word 'PKM' clearly written across the top. Just in case you thought you ordered an M60 by accident. The gun is packaged securely in G&P/2012/13 JG-type black foam, along with a high capacity assault clip and a bypass for the ROF adjuster. No battery included, although if you're spending $400 on a gun you better have a battery to go with it. Externals The entire gun is metal, save for the polymer furniture. Magnet testing confirms that the receiver and feed tray cover are ferrous, while the barrel and gas tube aren't. The carry handle is loose and is designed to swing around a limit arc freely, although I would trust it much, MUCH more than the flimsy M60 handle. The feed tray cover opens by pushing this button inward. Note that when closing the cover, you have to push the button in or it won't lock. The sights are reverse AK-type tangent sights. Pulling back on the adjuster raises the sight. Sight picture (IT'S NOT FOCUSED CORRECTLY I'M SORRY.). Basically identical to AK. Stock is rather nice black polymer. Shoulder thing that goes up goes up. The spring-loaded design is imo much more secure than the bearings of the M60VN. Two position rotary safety on the trigger group. This is safe. This is very much unsafe (for whoever's standing in the front). Gas tube and bipod. Continuing with A&K's tradition of shitty MG bipods, the one on the PKM is very loose and wobbly. No idea if the S/N's unique or not. OH GOD THE ORANGE IT BURNS. I would recommend replacing this immediately with a short-type unit (available from cncwarrior.com for $20) Charging handle moves, but it's not spring-loaded. ROF adjuster. According to the manual, the L is for >11A, M is for 9-11A, and S is for <9A. Barrel removal process. Rotate the flathead screw clockwise until it clicks and then push the barrel block out from the right side. Then, remove barrel from gun. Once the barrel is removed, you can push down on this plate to remove the gas tube. Adjuster and gas tube, separated from receiver. For obvious reasons, I installed the bypass plug about 5 seconds after taking this picture. Magazine is green steel, with a cloth carry handle. Feeding is carried out through a fixed location, a massive improvement to the M60 threaded tube design. Mag controls. Middle is off, one of the sides is continuous, and the other side is wind when trigger pulled. Unlike the M60, the location of this isn't a huge pain in the ass to access. Open the magazine by flipping the latch (as shown) and pulling open the top. Battery space, is, unfortunately, minuscule compared to the M60, although BB capacity is increased to 5000. To attach the mag, lock the left side to the left side mag mount on the gun. Then, rock to the right until it clicks. Magazine removal is facilitated by pulling a lever on the magazine back and rocking it off the gun. Internals Inside the feed tray, we have the wires. I assume the wires are packed this way for storage. Correct wire configuration. The fuse goes in that ribbed thing below the feed tray. Gearbox appears to be a modified M249 type with 3-prong QD connector. Performance is similar to other A&K beltfeds, with the trigger, compression, and motor being the weakpoints. Removal is facilitated by two screws on the right side of the gun. M249 gearbox pictured for comparison. Hopup is a shortened M60 chamber, and removed by unscrewing a hex screw on the top of the barrel. Barrel is 509mm to the beginning of the flash hider. M60 chamber pictured for comparison. Performance The sound of the gearbox is smooth and somewhat deep, with little whine thanks to the 8mm bearings. It sounds almost exactly the same as an A&K 249 gearbox, which isn't too much of a surprise considering they're basically the same thing. The M60 is much higher pitched than the PKM/249. The magazine, as expected, feeds wonderfully, and performance-wise is the same as the A&K M60 mag except steel instead of cloth and not requiring 5 hours to mount. Rate of fire with a fresh Elite 3300mah 9.6 NiMH is about 14=15 rps (measured with Audacity) which isn't exactly SPEED RACER but still good enough to keep heads down without burning through all your ammo. Regardless, I'd still recommend a motor change, as the stock one is rather shit. Overall Although the gun still has some problems (microswitch, massively tedious and overcomplicated barrel removal process, limited battery space), in all other aspects, it is, in many ways, a massive improvement upon A&K's M60 releases. If you're looking for a support gun and have $400+ laying around, go ahead and pick up the A&K PKM. You'll probably only start regretting it once it starts getting really heavy. Before spending 400 of your hard-earned (or not if you're a spoiled child) dollars on a PKM, also read this thoroughly.
Damn the magazine is huge, bigger than I expected.
Have you tested what the L M S switch actually does when firing? I can't find any concrete data on what it actually does in the gun.
snip totally wrong
no i haven't gotten a chance to fire it yet because azn parents don't let me shoot fakeguns during gookanese new year week [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] dwt that's the faster/slower not the lms
Looks noice A couple of my teammates have their PKMs held up in customs but they have realsteel stocks and bakelite grips waiting in their closet Can't wait to handle oen myself!!
I would get dat so good wood but robertrtg just ran out and i don't want to buy from gnubroker or the shitty evike brand wood
:c Yeah, I've noticed those fagets over at Red Alliance basically sucked the market dry of PKM parts now that A&K made one
oh and above the pkp and aek-999 on the back of the manual wood&bakelite model hinted
How tall are you?
The construction of the box mag makes my pee-pee tingle. I hate my 249 box.
How tall are you?
6'1" [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] how is that relevant
6'1" [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] how is that relevant
I was wondering how the PKM would fit.
I love the pk but the black furniture doesen't seem appropiate
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/7,62_KK_PKM.JPG[/t] FDF 7,62 KK PKM granted the stock on the KK is the PKP type dimpled one but still
6'1" [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] how is that relevant
you're 6'1"? goddamn that picture of you running with your hands in the air suddenly sounds really stompy in my head
Now we need an NSV. Where's that gif of the Russian guy walking while firing that bigass machine gun?
Now we need an NSV. Where's that gif of the Russian guy walking while firing that bigass machine gun?
that's a kord ;O [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] but look at this polish guy, he looks so happy with his NSV
Shoulder thing that goes up goes up.
My sides.
Ohh I found it Pay attention A&K I want to feel my arms burning 5 minutes into games
I want one of these but i'm afraid i'll get tired of lugging it around and wish i'd bought 2 other guns instead. The store i bought my M14 and G36 from stock it now so if i get the money i might cave into temptation. How is it for sling loops, does it have any?
front one yes, but the rear one you'll have to
Shulder padings ar fur pussis, kamarad.
Shulder padings ar fur pussis, kamarad.
yeah i think piano wire would be a good sling!!
Nyet, a fishyn shtring wud bee more fitting
No sling=best sling for best bestest manly man.
I can guarantee you that after about 5 minutes of lugging a 20+ pound 4foot long metal brick with only your arms you would feel like the shittiest man ever (this is directed towards ycheez not anyone else)
I played a game with a CA MK46, which isn't nearly as big, but it's still pretty heavy, like 16 or 17 pounds loaded, and it had no sling. it was terrible
I use no sling on my 249 and its okay. Having a sling on it is much worse.
I use no sling on my 249 and its okay. Having a sling on it is much worse.
I'd imagine there's quite a difference between PKM and 249
