• Criterion to stop making racing games
The boss of Criterion Games has indicated the studio is moving away from racing games. In a series of tweets, Criterion chief Alex Ward warned gamers against expecting the Guildford-based, EA-owned developer from delivering a new Burnout, Need for Speed, Road Rash or Black game any time soon. ... Ward's tweets come as some surprise given Criterion's success with the Need for Speed brand, but with the emergence of new studio Ghost, the recently-established Swedish development studio formerly known as EA Gothenburg confirmed to be working on Need for Speed using the Frostbite engine, they do not indicate EA has ditched the racing brand.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-16-criterion-boss-after-over-a-decade-of-making-racing-games-its-time-to-make-something-new
New studio currently working on a new NFS game? It better be worth it. [Sp]no wait are you kidding me it's completely terrible[/sp] On-topic, I would like to see another Black.
I miss burnout :(
I wanted them to make another burnout game though. Oh well, guess I won't be seeing another one.
If that's what they want to, sure. I think Black was a hell of a game.
I don't like racing games.
I wanted them to make another burnout game though. Oh well, guess I won't be seeing another one.
Need for speed is the new Burnout, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Most wanted was a great game because it was essentially Paradise 2.
burnout paradise is not a good racing game
burnout paradise is not a good racing game
Burnout 3 was the best in the series, in my opinion. I didn't like the open world style of Paradise and I was disappointed with the removal of Crash mode.
burnout paradise is not a good racing game
Not a good one by any means, no. It was fun, though. Entertaining. Awesome at times. But quality-wise, it wasn't very good.
Good. They ruined NFS. Black Box used to make awesome nfs games. Even undercover wasnt as bad as the accel/handbrake only stuff Criterion pulled for a game that wasnt about MADU DURIFTU and roads as wide as a 70 year old prostitute.
Fuck sake, burnout 3 and 4 were 2 of my favourite racing games. I wish they could have made another one of that quality before stopping.
I wanted them to make another burnout game though. Oh well, guess I won't be seeing another one.
The title is misleading, they are taking a break from the burnout games to make something that isn't racing.
I don't like racing games.
I don't like you.

Not to mention Hot Pursuit which was also pretty goddamn fun. Both of which where far better than what the series had started to devolve into. (Although SHIFT and SHIFT 2 where nice changes) Edit: It's just occurred to me that every single NFS game other than the handheld versions, have aaaall been on PC. I find that rather impressive.
burnout paradise is not a good racing game
It tried something different for the series and it was great fun online, singleplayer was just "good". At least Criterion didn't just keep making the same game over and over, with every game they've at least tried to innovate.
Besides the news of a new studio doing the next NFS, I can only see this as being positive. We need less of these overdone racing franchises. We need more new creative attempts at the racing genre.
Burnout 3 was the best in the series, in my opinion. The crash mode in revenge was perfect though [editline]16th April 2013[/editline]
Besides the news of a new studio doing the next NFS, I can only see this as being positive.
I don't like racing games.
Good for you.
Thread music With that aside, I'm not sure how Criterion will go on without making more racing games.
I used to play quite a bit of NFS, then I got into several open world games where driving was simply one aspect of the gameplay, and usually it worked just about as well as in that featured in focused racing games. I've kinda stopped playing them since, with the exception of Driver San Fransisco that brought enough new and fun to the table to make me not feel like playing a racing game offered me less gameplay than those open world games with racing it in. That said, sometimes I still dust off the old Most Wanted and indulge in some B Movie goodness. Driving around in that starting Lexus feels just as neat as ever.
delivering a new Burnout, Need for Speed, Road Rash or Black game any time soon.
But Black isn't a racing game.
Pretty misleading title. He simply said that they were going to take a break from burnout and make something new.
I am proud of all of the Burnout games. When it feels right we will make another one. We are creative people.
Good. The Most Wanted reboot was a colossal fuckup. Everyone was expecting a... I don't know, maybe A FUCKING MOST WANTED REMAKE but noooope, just a mediocre dumbed down Burnout sequel. I promised myself that i'm never ever buying a single Need For Speed ever again until they make a reboot of Underground, Most Wanted or Carbon and without the massive "FUCK YOU" the original game.
Burnout Revenge was the only Burnout game I had the chance to play/own. I loved it. It was probably the first game I tried my best to 100% the game. Only got to 98% though. :( How does FP feel about this game? Seems to be forgotten in this thread.

I loved every Burnout, from the first to Paradise, except that latest arcade one. Crash, was it called? Anyway, I didn't like that in revenge you'd push cars that weren't oncoming rather than have a crash, something I always loved in Burnout was having to dodge traffic the best you could.
I enjoyed new Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
I remember the days of playing burnout. (then burnout 2, 3 & revenge.) Personally, Revenge was the best racing game I had. Forza will never get to what Burnout is. Takedowns, crash mode and more than one place you actually race in.
Burnout 3 and Black were my favorites. Did anyone else not like Dominator?
Can't wait for the Black 2 day one dlc
