Hotel manager Timaia Gulliver said pub staff who served the man were unaware of his unconventional mode of transport until police arrived. The plane was towed away from the carpark and the man was questioned by officers. Witnesses saw the man being patted down by police outside the pub. Newman police Sgt Mark Garner said officers were investigating whether the man had committed an offence and charges were pending. "I need to look at what the appropriate offence would be as it's a bit of an unusual one."
https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/25402639/plane-sailing-to-the-pub/

is doing this really an offence?
FUI [editline]1st November 2014[/editline] oh wait it had no wings
is doing this really an offence?
I'm actually not sure. If you want to get technical about it, he might have needed an oversize plate or something, since the wings would probably cross to the other side of the road. More curious about how the cops managed to tow it away. EDIT - Okay, bad reading on my part, it had no wings.
Well. It's not registered for use on the roads. It doesn't meet road safety standards.. yea it's probably pretty illegal to do this.
It would be easier to fly an ultralight helicopter around instead and only land on private property.
"Man, this guy is so drunk he claims he got to this pub by plane!"
Reminds me of putting in the wrong vehicle code cheat for Grand Theft Auto.
This sounds like something outta family guy
is doing this really an offence?
First off not a legal road vehicle. Secondly, SPINNING DEATH BLADES on the front, not exactly the safest vehicle to be driving down a road.
Certainly sounds like something that would happen in rural Western Australia.
is doing this really an offence?
I hope so, driving anything with a propeller around anywhere that isn't an enclosed airport is reckless.
First off not a legal road vehicle. Secondly, SPINNING DEATH BLADES on the front, not exactly the safest vehicle to be driving down a road.
See if anyone tries to jaywalk.
Wait, if you drive yourself to the pub (I can only assume to consume alcohol), how are you supposed to get it back? Walking home, and then getting it the next day or something?
I hope so, driving anything with a propeller around anywhere that isn't an enclosed airport is reckless.
Well, it kind of confuses me a little bit, because it claims the bar staff had no idea that he had gotten there by plane. However, if you've ever been anywhere close to those things, they're loud as fuck. Anyone in the surrounding 10 blocks could have heard him.
Wait, I thought you could power the wheels without turning on the propellers.
Wait, I thought you could power the wheels without turning on the propellers.
Wheels on planes are not powered, the most they'll have is brakes and steering
The steering is done by the rudder, not the wheels.
The steering is done by the rudder, not the wheels.
Uh no. The wheels turn. Otherwise, how else are you meant to taxi to a runway at low speed? You couldn't turn otherwise.
This sounds like something outta family guy
If it was Family Guy, Peter would've destroyed everything in his path with unnecessarily graphic detail all while he has the same apathetic look every single MacFarlene character has. And then a Top Gun-themed cutaway gag.
"just gonna grab a pint from the pub hun" *drives off in a plane*
Uh no. The wheels turn. Otherwise, how else are you meant to taxi to a runway at low speed? You couldn't turn otherwise.
Yes you can. Trust me, I have flown airplanes. If it is a taildragger, then the rear wheel is on a bearing, but that's it, so the rear end can follow the front. Planes do not have turnable wheels like a car. [editline]2nd November 2014[/editline] I should clarify. Maybe jumbo jets have something like that, but this is a small single engine aircraft. This, most definitely, does not.

This is for light, single engine aircraft such as the Cessna 172.

Learn something new every day. I exclusively flew taildraggers, specifically an AT-6 and an ACA Super Decathlon. The concept of a front wheel is very foreign.

Yep, sorry about that. I should have done a five second search. Instead I opened my mouth like a moron.
HEY GUYS DID I MENTION I'M IN THE ARMY
Also I just thought that the front wheel was on a bearing too. Didn't know the rudder pedals also steered the front wheel.
