Interest in travel to the US has plummeted since Trump became president
The US could be on the verge of a tourism shock. Interest in traveling to the US from at least 94 countries has fallen sharply since Donald J. Trump was sworn in as president, according to Hopper, a digital travel agency.Overall average interest in flying to the US declined 17% from the three weeks before Trump’s inauguration to two weeks afterward, Hopper said, based on weekly averages of an analysis of billions of global flight searches. Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning residents of seven Muslim-majority countries a week after he was inaugurated.
Last year during the same period, interest in flying to the US fell 1.8%, suggesting that the recent downturn is much more than just a seasonal fluctuation.

False correlation? Three weeks before trump was innaugurated it was Christmas time which means more people were off their jobs and able to travel to see their families or just have a laff in their vacations
The very next sentence says
Last year during the same period, interest in flying to the US fell 1.8%, suggesting that the recent downturn is much more than just a seasonal fluctuation.
I'd like to see some more long-term statistics too. The events of last year can't have been good for tourism either.

It's tracking flight searches, and most people don't search for a flight the week before they go.
I really do not see a reason to be bothered by this at all.

It's not like the US economy is highly benefited by tourism

Tourism is the economic cornerstone of several regions within the United States, and a dramatic drop in international tourism threatens to destabilize the cities and states which rely on it.

at the moment yes
but if its a sustained decrease, then you should be concerned for the touristy areas

Yes, we must make like Tokugawa Japan and shut ourselves off from all sides.

Are you kidding me?
Like others have said a lot of states in the U.S rely on money generated by tourism. Places like Hawaii, New York, Florida, and many other states need tourism for their economies.
Point being a lot of businesses in these areas rely on tourism and the city needs the funds that comes from. Without these funds a the local economy can hurt big time. If this trend continues and proves to be due to Trumps policy it will only get worse. All of this could just be a bad timing, but we will find out. I will not blame trump 100 percent but I'm sure his policies are a small part of it.
Well the USD has increased in value since Trump was President-elect so it's unlikely to be wholly related to him becoming President.
Also the Christmas period is over now, when most people are looking too.
But I have no doubt some of it is related to the fact his is a diplomatic disaster and people want to keep away from the US.
According to [del]this[/del],this, the US made [del]$220B[/del] $488B in direct contributions last year in tourism. Which means even a decrease in a couple of percentage points could mean Billions in potential losses.

Of course you wouldn't. You and your ilk refuse to acknowledge any harm done to this country by Trump and his administration. Why is that? Why are we witnessing such wide spread denial by conservatives? Why are none of you willing to acknowledge the damage being done to your country?

If you're looking at flights in November/December that leave in the same season you're a fucking idiot and/or rich. No one looks at flights in November/December unless they fit one of those criteria minimum. If you travel for the holidays you probably are buying your tickets as far out as possible, October at the latest. Airlines jack the prices way up during the holidays, more so than they already do pre-season. Rule of thumb I was taught is you never book flights less than 3 weeks from the date you want to leave if possible, because those last 3 weeks they jack the prices way up.

"Doesn't affect me"

Why would they apologize for, or acknowledge something they agree with? To them it either doesn't matter, or doesnt directly affect them (lol), or they dont care about the consequences because 'we put one over on the damn liberals'.
Trump has successfully polarized both halves of the country against each other on an unprecedented scale.

But the most important thing in the conservative mind is profit. Trump is directly affecting the profit of tourism dependent businesses in America. Why do they refuse to acknowledge that?
My personal belief is that the last eight years has left conservatives insecure, and they're afraid to admit any wrong doing now that they finally have the white house. They're afraid to admit they dislike Trump, afraid to admit that he's damaging their country, and afraid to admit that voting for him was a mistake. That's why they all employ such twisted logic and doublethink. That's why they suddenly, out of nowhere, care about things contrary to their past beliefs. That's why they suddenly all love Russia and Putin. That's why they suddenly care about flyover states (they didn't before). They're just all afraid and insecure.

And you know why they do that? Because people do book last minute. It doesn't change the fact that during the December period people are more inclined to look for travel.
These are simply search engine results. Not actual tangible results regarding tourists entering the US.
Well yeah, violence and mass protests, with added racial tention over the whole country does not sound like an appealing place to visit with the family.

The city I live in (Panama City Beach) pretty much exists due to tourism.
I was planning on making another visit down to the Seattle area to see my friends. I visited them last Spring and it was nice, and I was waiting for the weather to turn nice before going back to see them again.
Since Trump's inauguration and subsequent insanity, including this shit of invading social media accounts at the border, it's safe to say that my friends are going to have to come up and visit me, or else we'll have to settle for online, until President Cheeto Grande is out of office.
And I know I'm not alone in this.
