The University of Chicago recently purchased the property and announced that it intends to turn the property into a parking lot. According to a report in The Washington Times, that plot could soon be the parking lot for the future site of President Barack Obama’s presidential library. “Whatever you think of Reagan — once the building’s gone, it’s gone forever,” Hyde Park Historical society board member Jack Spicer told the U.K Daily Mail. Their report speculates that political motives may be behind the University of Chicago’s decision to raze the apartment building which housed the nation’s 40th president in his youth. Some have said that the liberal Chicago establishment does not want a reminder that Reagan, a conservative icon, once lived in the city. Its current mayor, Rahm Emmanuel, was the White House Chief of Staff during Obama’s first term. The school has been lobbying the White House to become the site of Obama’s presidential library after he leaves office in 2017.
And because it was Regan, nothing of value was lost.
The dirtbag commie is destroying the hero of capitalism, how fitting
"Mr. Obama, TEAR DOWN THAT HOME!"
Mr. Obama tear down that house! [editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
"Mr. Obama, TEAR DOWN THAT HOME!"
YOUUU
Really? They can't make it anywhere else?
Trickle-down economics
This saddens me [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] Tbh it's better than a parking lot though
Well, why can't they build it somewhere else? Like, say, one of the tons of empty lots in Chicago?
Reagan was actually a pretty damn overrated president IMO.
This is a bit fucked up to do. Also, Jack Spicer?
His upbringing actually looks a lot more modest than what I imagined.
And because it was Regan, nothing of value was lost.
Good president or bad, it's still of historical value. Even Nixon's childhood house would be historical.
Good president or bad, it's still of historical value. Even Nixon's childhood house would be historical.
Even as a mild Conservative, I have to say, Nixon was an awful president.
Yes, let's destroy the home of a former president, a place of historical significance, for a library?? Jesus christ. I regret voting for Caliph Obamo.
The property was bought in 2004 and Reagan only lived there for 10 months of his life. His actual childhood home, the one his family acknowledges, is restored and nationally registered in Dixon, IL. Manufactured controversy, nothing to see here folks, move along.

Never mind then, feel free to tear it down.

It looks like quite a nice building. Renovate it and turn it into offices for the University, you can put parking below it if they're smart about it.
the song of our people
Blame the university of Chicago, not Obama
This is silly. Extremely silly. Even if you don't agree with what Reagan did, his childhood home should still get respect.
This saddens me [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] Tbh it's better than a parking lot though
its going to be turned into the parking lot for the library
Legit Fox coverage: http://nation.foxnews.com/ronald-reagan/2013/01/30/ronald-reagan-s-childhood-home-parking-lot-obama-library
I was expecting a sad face obama.
This is silly. Extremely silly. Even if you don't agree with what Reagan did, his childhood home should still get respect.
nah for a dude that was always yammering about the power of the free market and trickle down economics it seems fitting his childhood home (not really) gets demolished thanks to the free market
This is silly. Extremely silly. Even if you don't agree with what Reagan did, his childhood home should still get respect.
Read up, it's not actually his childhood home He lived there for like 10 months, big deal, hardly even a home
Yes, let's destroy the home of a former president, a place of historical significance, for a library?? Jesus christ. I regret voting for Caliph Obamo.
Especially given that most of the people in Chicago can't read, anyways...
Especially given that most of the people in Chicago can't read, anyways...
yeah people can't read in chicago and we should leave it that way by not building any libraries A+
I gotta admit: I like libraries, and I don't give a shit about Reagan's home. Bulldoze that shit.
This is silly. Extremely silly. Even if you don't agree with what Reagan did, his childhood home should still get respect.
Why? Just because republicans turned him into a cult figure doesn't mean I have to worship him. If this was Jimmy Carter's home no one would give a fuck.
