Radio 4 presenter James Naughtie has apologised for causing offence live on air on Monday by mispronouncing Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's surname. The presenter inadvertently used an offensive four-letter word just before 0800 GMT on Radio 4's Today programme. Naughtie said he was "very sorry" for any offence caused. Mr Hunt tweeted: "They say prepare for anything before going on Today but that took the biscuit. I was laughing as much as u Jim." "Or should I say Dr Spooner," he added. Mr Hunt was interviewed on the programme about his plans for universal broadband provision and how superfast broadband will be delivered in the UK. Naughtie inadvertently used the first letter of the Culture Secretary's title to replace the 'H' in Mr Hunt's surname. The presenter told listeners shortly after his error that he got himself into a "verbal tangle courtesy of Dr Spooner." According to e-mails sent in response to his mistake, Naughtie said: "Some found it funny, some were fairly offended." "Occasionally these things happen in live broadcasting," he continued. "I'm very sorry to anyone who thought it wasn't what they wanted to hear over their breakfast - neither did I, needless to say." Later on Monday, broadcaster Andrew Marr repeated the four-letter expletive on Radio 4's Start the Week programme. "We're not going to repeat it in quite the terms it happened," he told listeners, before doing precisely that. After his error, he told the audience: "I should apologise for saying it again, but it's very hard to talk about it without saying it." A BBC spokeswoman said: "James and Andrew regret what happened and have both apologised for their verbal tangles on air. "These instances both involved a slip of the tongue during a live broadcast and we apologise for any offence caused."
I used to know someone named Mike Hunt. Oh the good old days. :allears:
He was a naughtie boy.
What a hunt.
People get "offended" by anything. The man said it by accident, big deal. You can't get something like this wrong and laugh about it, then continue it seems. Its all serious business for hypocritical white vests. The public needs to get some proper problems to worry about. Thats my take on the matter anyway, feel free to disagree with it. Be careful not to get offended.
Can be heard here http://radiofail.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/radio-4-naughty-naughtie/ I love how he tries to pass it off as a coughing fit afterwards when he's laughing. And the guy later in the day repeating it by accident http://radiofail.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/naughty-naughtie-fail-part-2/ http://radiofail.wordpress.com/2010/10/19/film-title-fail/ haha oh god
Hm. And I thought America was the only country that could easily get offended by anything that sounds offensive.
Hm. And I thought America was the only country that could easily get offended by anything that sounds offensive.
I don't really think anyone has been truly offended. It's just something that some people do not want to hear at 8 in the morning. People are probably more offended that he breached the BBC's guidelines.

But I could give a rat's ass if I heard the word "cunt" at 8 in the morning, people are just being sensitive to a word they can easily ignore. I mean, it's just one word, deal with it.
wow he mispronounced a word CALL THE COPS
wow he mispronounced a word CALL THE COPS
Yes, and he mispronounced it as a rather severe swear word!
Co-worker Dickens, Ider outraged.
My business teacher's name was Mike Hunton. Hilarious.
Execute him
Execute him
Clearly this is the only answer for saying such evil things. On the BBC news site on the day it happened there was a clip of an MP doing the same thing in the house of commons, followed by someone asking if its some sort of evil plot to get this guys name wrong.
