To be fair, the current state of renewables here is dog shite and will continue to be so with the power generation methods we have. No wonder fossil fuels are more efficient, cost effective and stable.

I can imagine that we're pretty damn close to the point where renewables are edging over nuclear power in terms a feasability/cost. Losing the stigma might have been good 20 years ago but im not so sure now.

Homer is the fuck-up - a well meaning one, but yeah. Burns is just a cheapstake, and he routinely got into trouble with the nuclear regulators in the early episodes. Despite this, I could never shake the feeling that the show's creators harbored an anti-nuclear sentiment on the whole. And I don't doubt the Simpsons, along with Hollywood, have contributed to uninformed paranoia about nuclear reactors all supposedly being unsafe.

Sam Simon was quite obviously anti-nuclear. The United States Council for Energy Awareness even gave them a free field trip to a nuclear plant to show them how wrong they were about nuclear power.

Even this didn't stop his anti-nuclear agenda, it was either that, or he was fucking retard and did not realize how much weight his show actually had on people's perspectives of nuclear energy when he cracked 'jokes' about it at nuclear's expense.
