So I have a korean friend here who recently moved to the US. I'm in Malaysia so I pretty much lost contact with him. Well, here the story goes. I met this good friend of mine 6 years ago. He was a quiet, timid and a nice guy to talk with. With him being a South Korean, I always makes North Korea related jokes in school. Everyone would laugh or smile except him. I've always wondered why but, I never got the chance to actually ask him about it. So about a week ago, he left school. He is now at Atlanta, USA. Then today, my teacher told me something about him. I didn't really expected the news but... His family escaped from North Korea around 13-17 years ago. They had a really bad life and suffered in North Korea until one day, his grandmother (yes, his grandmother) made a plan to escape from the hell hole. Their journey took hours of crawling in the muddy mists of the Korean jungle sneaking through guard posts and to the North-South border. In the journey, his grandmother died. Shot by a guard. They later then managed to establish a new household in South Korea for 2 years before moving to Indonesia, then Malaysia and now he is in the United States. I found this story to be quite amazing as it was originally told by my friend's sister who is also one of the 6 persons. Now, I actually feel guilty about making North Korea jokes in front of him cause I might actually remind him about the suffering in the North and his late grandmother. Tl;dr- I think you should read it but if you didn't understand the story: 'My friend whose family was from North Korea and managed to escape from it and lived a better life in another country'
I think a more appropriate TL;DR would be "My Korean friend never used to laugh at my jokes about North Korea but I kept making them, and then I found out his family had escaped NK and his grandmother got shot by a guard. Now I've realised that every time I told one of those jokes I reminded him of the suffering his family had to endure."
Holy Titnuggets.
It's terrible up in North Korea. Worst part is that the DMZ is just filled with landmines, and the fact that its really only a ceasefire.
Holy shit, is it really that bad in North Korea!? Edit: Ohshit im dumb.
Holy shit, is it really that bad in North Korea!?
It is, living conditions there are shit.
Holy shit, is it really that bad in North Korea!?
don't believe those capitalist pigs
Holy shit, is it really that bad in North Korea!?
You know about them concentration camps like in WW2? They have those camps in North Kora, but these camps aren't just for individuals, or families, but for generations. There's little communication with the outside world, the "rich" Koreans live in poverty, and people are starving. I could list a lot more.
i don't get this my little pony thing like is it an inside joke
North Korea is a prison island. Why aren't we doing something about that?
My mate's mum is from South Korea, we call him the chairman.
That's awful, man.
i guess im a faggot so snip
Heh, I found out one about mine too, she cuts herself. :smith:
Dude, you should try and get into contact with him to say sorry and that you never knew. :(
Came into this thread expecting a story about how your friend was closet homosexual
Dude, you should try and get into contact with him to say sorry and that you never knew. :(
Well, I did ask him to forgive me for things I might have done to him before he left. I'm still trying to get in contact with him.
oh snap, that is an EPIC story. Like how slaves escaped USA to Canada but more badass
i don't get this my little pony thing like is it an inside joke
Off topic, but it's just people who enjoy the show. On topic, How old was he when they escaped? You should get back in contact with him and apologise sincerely.

I thought that your friend had the ability to fly or spit acid or some shit judging by the title.
his grandmothers in a better place chillin at thugz mansion
Wow, someone should make a movie about that
Wow, someone should make a movie about that
OP's friend can be the good guy. Half-hour intro, Hour of crawling through muddy jungle, half-hour outro. OP can be the bad guy.
Is it bad that I expect Kim Jong Il to hop in and make a witty remark? Seriously though, it may be better to leave things as it is. If you've already lost contact with him it may sting even worse for him if you look him up again just to talk about Korea.
North Korea is a prison island. Why aren't we doing something about that?
Remember the last time US attacked a communistic jungle country? Also the middle-east is enough trouble already.
Remember the last time US attacked a communistic jungle country? Also the middle-east is enough trouble already.
But Osama is dead, the war is over! No more terrorism! HORAH!
Has Kim Jong Il died yet?
Has Kim Jong Il died yet?
No, he's resigned and given power to his son. North Korea is an absolute hell hole supported off of forced labour from it's citizens. Without this, the North Korean economy would die off very rapidly. The borders are secured using industrial grade electric fences that cause human flesh to combust upon contact due to the high amount of current going through it. If you simply say that you don't like one thing the government is doing, it has been known that they will take you/your family/people you know and force them to work in slave camps as well. It's an awful place.
Has Kim Jong Il died yet?
I heard from a reliable source that he's immortal.
