Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White, whose horn-driven band sold more than 90 million albums and made hits like "September," ''Shining Star" and "Boogie Wonderland," died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, his brother Verdine said.
White, who was 74, suffered from Parkinson's Disease and had retreated from the public even as the band he founded kept performing.
"My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep," Verdine White, also a member of the band, told The Associated Press on Thursday. "While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes."
One of my favourite groups and one amongst my most favourite artists right there. Gone.
May he rest in peace.
He didn't leave the Earth with out leaving a great mark, so it's not so painful! Still sucks, but he did good.
I just listened to one of there albums yesterday
The world could use more funky tunes. He'll definitely be missed.
Never cared for EW&F, but I know that their mark on this world was big, sorry to the fans that this effects.
Damn, me and my friends loved this band. One of my friends actually walked out to our homecoming court with "Let's Groove".
To quote Disco Stu "The south shall boogie again."

These guys were funk incarnate, I tell you
As someone that grew up on EWF's music this strikes really close to home, I will still argue they are one of the best R&B bands ever.
