However, it will only attack if provoked.

“I had seen a couple of babies so knew they had young. I went out with my torch one night and the fence was coming to life.” He added: “I caught one and I’m sure it was a male. I put it in (a glass) with one of the baby spiders and it just killed it within seconds.
”
The false widow spider first came to the UK over 100 years ago in crates of fruit from the Canary Islands. It has been established in Devon for a long time but recently climate change has caused the population to spread across the south east. The spider is likely to spread northwards in years to come, according to the Natural History Museum’s Insect Information Service (IIS). Nope. NOPE. The fact that my sister just moved into a university in London sure doesn't help, either.
Never going to London.
most venomous. poisonous means it's not safe to eat. venomous means it bites you and you get sick/die.
Britain just got a notch more metal.
If they come up North I'm outta here.
Great, here I thought we were more or less safe from deadly spiders.
Fuck I'm going to uni down there in a week. BRB writing my will
And to think I currently live right near, and go to uni in Kingston upon Thames. Venomous spiders and the dreaded fatberg!
Good thing I moved out of Kent to go to University
Considering Britain is a fairly damp and chilly Island (and therefore not a particularly conducive climate for spiders), calling it the place's "most deadly spider" isn't saying a lot. Granted, you don't want to get bit by it, but it's still relatively harmless compared to species found in other places (like the Brazilian Wandering spider).
I destroyed a whole nest of those things the other week with fire. I hope the babies don't find me :tinfoil:

Now you know how Australia feels :v:
JESUS FUCK MAKE ROOM IRELAND WE'RE MOVING OVER WE ALL LIVED IN BRITAIN BECAUSE NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY DANGEROUS LIVED HERE
JESUS FUCK MAKE ROOM IRELAND WE'RE MOVING OVER WE ALL LIVED IN BRITAIN BECAUSE NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY DANGEROUS LIVED HERE
This dude isn't significantly more dangerous than a common bee. You need to be allergic to die to the bite.

Its just like a wasp sting, you wont react to it unless you are allergic, stop panicking.
I wonder how it got its name, it does not look anything like the widows where I live. It sounds like its venom and behavior is different too. Ours have much wider bodies, compare the one in the Op to this one from from my yard. I normally see a few of these things each year (NorthDevon) but this year there have been a lot more than usual, atleast now you Urban Dwellers can experience the fun!
Iron cast balls.
It's probably dead
As someone who is living in the south east and is also an arachnophobic HALP
Iron cast balls.
Not really I was preparing this one for a specimen jar, I had already killed it at this point.
Come to London for our Fatberg and swarms of poisonous spiders
Okay, that's it. London is officially Hell.
At least it doesn't rain spiders.
This is hell. This is what hell look like.
Whoa whoa, back the fuck up a second... How long has Britain had venomous spiders?
Whoa whoa, back the fuck up a second... How long has Britain had venomous spiders?
Since Britain was Britain and since Spiders were Spiders. Most species of spider use venom to incapacitate/kill their prey, some use it in self defence, and few are capable of seriously harming a human.
