• Wondering what DSLR to get (Help)

Hey guys hows it going. I am looking for a camera that will be used for filming. I have used the Canon 550D, and I really like it, but I am wondering, before I buy it for myself, is there any better cameras out there for the same price that are better? Remember it will be for filming, I am not really interested in photographs. Thanks. Oh and if it helps I am in Ireland so if you have sites, they would have to deliver to Ireland. Cheers boyos.
I have the 550D and I spent my money after reading numerous reviews and hearing opinions on it and other cameras and I can safely say that it's the best camera out there for that sort of price which does video and takes amazing quality pictures.

Yeah I saw that thread but I thought it was more for photography cameras, sorry. So the 550D is the best DSLR for that price range for filming?
The 550D isn't a photography camera? [editline]20th March 2011[/editline] Oh for filming? I thought that most Canon DSLRs didn't do video. Hold on I need to do some research. [editline]20th March 2011[/editline] Ok nevermind, it does. I would go with a Nikon if you want to film with a DSLR, they have had video capability for longer, so I'm guessing they know their stuff a little better. The Nikon D5000 is good, and it's a little bit cheaper too.
Uh the 550D is the best DSLR at that price point for video. The D5000 only does 720p, the 550D does 1080p. I would guess it records at a higher bitrate too.
Canon are better for videos because they have a higher bitrate, more framerate choice and 1080p. Why not go with a dedicated video camera? want to do some photo stuff on the side?
If you don't care about video, go with either Canon or Nikon's entry level models. 550D/D3100, etc. The D5100 is rumoured to appear soon, as well.
I was thinking about getting a dedicated video camera, but it seems like DSLR's are all the rage now. And is there any dedicated video cameras that are as good or surpass the quality of the 550D for that price or cheaper?

The problem is that they are not easy to use and have a lot of downsides. I use a 7D to shoot movies for small companies and organisations and in controlled environments they are great. Anything other than that and you won't be able to use the quality to it's fullest

for the billionth time, if video is what you want get a camcorder
for the billionth time, if video is what you want get a camcorder
link to a camcorder that is better than a 550D?
with same DoF and versatility
and manual zoom lol good luck with under £843975435
speaking of video and stuff anyone know of a way to connect an xlr mic to the 550d? my friend borrowed a £300 mic (or so he says) and we're wondering if we can use it or if we'll have to use a laptop with one of those USB things.
I don't really get why I am rated dumb but whatever. DSLR's have a huge sensor that can deliver great images. You just shouldn't use it for homevideos. Due to the big sensor, the DOF is very shallow. This means you'll have to keep your hand on the focus at all times. Other, non-DSLR's use smaller sensors like 1/4th or 1/3rd which produce a bigger DOF. Would both the DSLR and a different camera have a f1.8 lens then the 'real' camera would have a lot more in focus. DSLR's are great for short movies and such, but for run-and-gun not so much. There are other options though like getting an external recorder like the Zoom series or buy one of those mixers that allow for XLR input.
buy a juicedlink
So can anybody tell me what camcorder is at the same level of quality as the 550D
So can anybody tell me what camcorder is at the same level of quality as the 550D
Sony Cinealta F23 [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline] maybe close with a PWM-EX3
You can change the aperture while you're filming...
Yeah if you are outside with enough sun or crank up the iso enough. That's not the only problem these cameras have though.
Any serious suggestions?
Any serious suggestions?
Just get that 550D, It's a great camera
Red
I found a Canon 550D on a website in Ireland for 690 euro, and it comes with a 15-55mm lens, good deal?
maybe
?
I work with sterling
I have a 550D. It's a great camera to start out with. 690 Euros is a pretty good price for it I think. I got mine for 750 CAD at a local store. It's the cheapest anyone was selling it for. Excluding online, I don't trust shipping companies to handle delicate products like cameras or lenses with care.
