Oh boy.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has purchased a nearly $600,000 summer retreat on Vermont’s Champlain Islands, the Vermont newspaper Seven Days reported Monday. “We’ve traveled up to the islands many times over the years — almost always on day trips,” Jane Sanders, the former White House contender's wife, said in a statement. "The entire family is very excited about it.” “We’ve always been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby.” The Sanders’ new waterfront home has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront, Seven Days reported. The town of North Hero has fewer than 1,000 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. The Sanders family also owns a row house on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and a house in Burlington, Vt.. The residence in Burlington is currently valued at $321,900, according to city property records.
So much for wanting to reduce homelessness when you have two houses.
This is what your donations paid for lol.
600K for a summer home isn't too much. Come on, the guy did a lot to change the political discourse in the country, I think he's earned it.
"Man Buys House"
ok? So?
Man who's probably gonna die within the next 5 years buys a house for his family. Come on, 600k is barely a drop in the bucket from the 300 million he raised and he honestly deserves it after all the shit he went through.
Doesn't sound that unusual for a senator
This is what your donations paid for lol.
Except he used those for the election and this is probably from his salary that he still makes because he's still a Senator? $600,000 isn't even that much for a house in New England, our housing prices are through the roof.
This is what your donations paid for lol.
I mean, about 98% of the donations were confirmed to be spent on advertisements and general campaign expenses. He didn't just pocket it and laugh at the dumb proles throwing money at him. Anyone who thinks a presidential candidate walks away from a lost primary with more money doesn't know how campaign finance works - the money doesn't go to Sanders, it went to his campaign, and he can't just dip his hands in the pile and buy a house with it.
Looks like Hillary paid him well!
First of all: is there any proof that he did buy this house using donations, and second: is it even legal/possible for someone to do so? On a side note, I'm from a middle class family, and although we do not have a second house, this one is probably worth about $600k. It really isn't excessive.
The median home value in Vermont is $209,300, $600,000 isn't unreasonable.
i like how people are literally giving bernie sanders shit for existing because he's doing something that most of the populus folk are already doing
The source neglects to mention his wife sold a house belonging to her family since the 1900's to pay for it though. The dude didn't just buy it with donations or something retarded like that.
lol fuck off with your complaining, the medium house price in auckland new zealand is now 720k usd.
My girlfriend's parents have a summer home which probably cost about that or more (high demand lakefront property), they make less than Bernie's senator salary, and they're younger than him. So why would anyone give a fuck?
He earns around $170k per year. This should be no surprise, but we gotta push that Shillary narrative right guys?
"Man Buys House"
Basically this. I don't want to sound too depressing but after all the stress of the election and what might lay ahead in politics, Sanders might die soon. Buying a holiday home after decades of political service for 600,000 dollars (which I've heard in the states is not super expensive) seems reasonable enough to me. And it's not donation money anyway - it's coming out of his own pocket. I can't wait to see the Sanders turned Trump supporters use this to prove they are 'right' somehow though.
Lol who gives a fuck, he's nearly dead and has probably been saving for a while. "This is what your donations paid for" no it paid for all of the people running his campaign and letting them take time off work to go out and champion something they genuinely believed in. Now the campaign is over and he bought a house. Big deal.
He earns around $170k per year. This should be no surprise, but we gotta push that Shillary narrative right guys?
What Shillary narrative?
Now watch this being being clawed and mauled on by those who don't think about the fact that this is a somewhat regular occurrence.
This is something people shouldn't care about. Not like he bought up a by to let empire or a legion of sports cars.
Media last desperate attempt to smear Sanders' reputation before he becomes irrelevant.
$600,000 fuck i'd love to get a good house that cheap.
i like how people are literally giving bernie sanders shit for existing because he's doing something that most of the populus folk are already doing
I don't recall most people having a summer home. Really only the really wealthy.
I don't recall most people having a summer home. Really only the really wealthy.
how dare bernie use his congressional salary to buy himself a house after selling a previous one we see right through your spindoctor bullshit
I don't recall most people having a summer home. Really only the really wealthy.
Senators make almost $200,000 per year, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he can afford things like this.
I know of some farmers and real estate agents where I live that have houses and land that go up in the million dollar range. $600K is pretty damn modest considering it's in New England.
We should have a thread every time a famous person buys something.
What Shillary narrative?
I worded that badly, sorry. In other words: The people who are using this "news" to claim that Clinton bought Bernie's loyalty are really clutching at straws.
