The Planetary Society showcased our solar sail mission, Lightsail-1, at day one of the USA Science & Engineering Festival on Washington DC's National Mall. Engineers Chris Biddy and Justin Jang from our Lightsail team explained the mission to curious visitors while Monical Lopez, Marketing and Interactive Manager, took photos of people to send aboard the spacecraft when Lightsail-1 launches in 2011. The line to meet Bill Nye stretched across the Mall and never seemed to grow shorter!
Astronaut John Grunsfeld, whose five shuttle missions include three trips to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, dropped by our booth to sign autographs as well. It was a great day, and we will be repeating it tomorrow, Sunday, October 24, when Bill returns to the booth from 10:00-11:00 am and appears on stage at Freedom Plaza at noon.

Bill Nye isn't aging too well, he looks like a skeleton with eyebrows.

What has science done?
Bill Nye the science guy.
Used to love watching his show...shame he's a whackjob now :(
Used to love watching his show...shame he's a whackjob now :(
How is that any different from before? That's why I liked the guy in the first place.
I think his new found insanity probably stems from the fact that his wife tried to kill him.
Used to love watching his show...shame he's a whackjob now :(
What? He hasn't changed a bit, in fact he's even more awesome now. He's been doing a ton more serious stuff now, which is cool because I grew up watching his stuff and now it's as if his programming and commenting is maturing with me.

What makes you say that?

Doomed one man to wear a bow tie for the rest of his life.
Bill Nye the science guy.
Bill Bill Bill Bill!
Inertia is a property of matter.
Science rules!

He always looked like a skeleton with eyebrows :v:
And even so, hes Bill Nye the motherfucking science guy, hes the reason I majored in mechanical engineering.
You know, there are two constants in the universe, the speed of light, and the awsomeness of Bill Nye.

A-Fucking-men to that.
The Japanese already have a solar sail probe going to Venus right now.

The probe is Akatsuki and the sail is called Ikaros.

Bow ties are cool.

I was wondering what this thread was about and then bill nye.
This discussion is more about Bill Nye than anything about the solar sail.
