Fire officials said a West Seattle man on a quixotic quest to rid his home of a vile spider ended up torching his abode on Tuesday evening.
The man told firefighters that he saw a spider in his laundry room and decided the best way to take care of it was with a lighter and a can of spray paint.
He basically set his house on fire because of a spider, like every sensible person.

How is this news if I'd do it in a heartbeat :p
Memes involving fire shouldn't be imitated.
I blame the internet and epic memes for this.

A house for a dead spider? Sounds like a good trade to me

Anywho back to article, it was originally posted on July 16 so is OP sorta late?
life imitates art.
Arachnophobes with makeshift flamethrowers are more dangerous than the spiders they fear.
Why not use a book or a newspaper instead
And how comes he had a flamethrower handy but not a piece of paper

I blame the internet for his overreaction.
My eldest brother used a can of deodorant and a lighter about 10 or 12 years ago to kill a spider. Torched the thing to the extent we couldn't find any remains of it. What I remember mostly though was the sudden fireball that erupted and the constant gigging when my Mum came back in the room. (She will never know)
I think his biggest mistake was to use spray paint and the fact that this was indoors. I'm guessing the paint caught fire and stuck to walls and whatever else he was spraying. If he had used a can of deodorant or something it wouldn't have been as bad.
Don't kill spiders unless you absolutely have to. Put them outside if you don't want them around.
I personally have left a spider in my bathroom alone for months. I'll let him stay as long as he continues his genocide against the ants invading my house.

Nope, these fuckers are KOS for me.
spiders aren't as evil as most make them out to be really. I HAD a spider chilling in my bathroom for a week. until I let my mom know. she would not allow it to stay regardless of what I told her.
I think the only spider I would outright go out of my way to kill is a black widow or Brown recluse. I just can't take that chance.
This thread is full of pro-spider propaganda.
Anyway, while this man's execution needs work, I admire his sheer determination to kill spiders.

Personally I blame the guy who set his house on fire for being a fucking mongo but hey that's just me.
He may have lost a lot, but in the end, he did succeed what he went out to achieve.

he would have grabbed his shotgun, but he used up all the shells trying to kill a few cockroaches in his living room the day before
Seams like a pretty reasonable response to me.
Poor spider, he lost his home

Ya, killing spiders inside a home is considered bad luck in many cultures. That man learnt it the hard way; lost his house.
I always toss the spiders outside even the big fat ones lol.
He took the "kill it with fire" circlejerk a little too far.

I keep small sized ones in my room if I see them, they do actually keep pretty much every insect out and the spiders are almost never out ever or bother me. Wouldnt want some big mother fucker though.

Doubt it, there was no mention of gas masks in the article.
