President Dilma Rousseff lost a crucial impeachment vote in Brazil’s lower house on Sunday evening, making her removal ever more likely and deepening the country’s political crisis less than four months before the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. That was pathetic. A bunch of congressmen who are either getting investigated for corruption, homophobic, sexist, religious extremist or a combination of all, voting against a woman who hasn't been proved guilty. The worst of all is that someone who was part of some sort of conspiracy against the government is going to be president and the vice-president is going to be someone who is most likely a thief. And people are celebrating on the streets like the corruption is over and the country is amazing right now.
She still hasn't been tried by the Senate you know. For now she's only suspended.
I have a couple friends in Brazil, and they were super disappointed at this result- getting rid of a president for not solving corruption, then making one of the corrupted people the new president. Hopefully things sort out eventually, because this shit sounds fucked.

Lol one of them even voted in favor of the impeachment on behalf of a man who tortured people during the dictatorship period of the country. How is this supposed to be taken seriously?
Tchau, querida
This. I'm not a very political person, I don't care if it's left or right, but if you're corrupt you should go down. People are calling corrupt assholes heroes.
If you ask me, heroic politician is an oxymoron.
If what I'm reading is all true, this really is fucked up. Especially how the majority of Brazil is applauding this.
If what I'm reading is all true, this really is fucked up. Dilma definitely deserves to be impeached, but the replacement may well be worse.

So do you think the olympics get delayed or moved? after a impeachmen there is usually a period of tensions if the country is not stable.
So do you think the olympics get delayed or moved? after a impeachmen there is usually a period of tensions if the country is not stable.
Nah, it will be the same thing as the World Cup
So do you think the olympics get delayed or moved? after a impeachmen there is usually a period of tensions if the country is not stable.
The process isn't even done. There's another voting on the senate and there's also a judgement on the supreme court and finally an appeal. That all should last 4~5 months.
And people are celebrating on the streets like the corruption is over and the country is amazing right now.
Or maybe they're celebrating that this is the first defeat of a government that has proven time and again incapable of governing this country, maybe they're people who are celebrating the fact that this is the first time in 24 years that the average man and woman of this country are finally making a difference in politics and that it won't "end in pizza". You lost already, get over it and take it like a man. But hey, you can keep with your eyes closed to the truth and pretend that Dilma is this little innocent angel amidst demons and that one day you'll wake up and see that the economy has magically fixed itself, people are getting a ton of jobs and that this woman isn't cutting funding from educational and medical institutions every month or so just to keep her little cartel afloat, that works too. Except that the rest of this country isn't going to just sit down and take it.

People make a difference when they vote during the election not on this. YOU people should get over the elecion results. And how did I lose? Lol you act like I'm one of Dilma's goons while I'm not. This impeachnent shit was awful, anyone with common sense knows it.

This impeachnent shit was awful, anyone with common sense knows it but clearly you lack it.
That's funny considering that PT has tried to impeach every single president since 1988 constitution and has filed no less than 50 impeachment processes. Why couldn't they get over all those election results? The truth of the matter is that people don't know about politics or the politicians they defend/attack. Dilma was never meant to be president. I don't think she was even the third in line of sucession. She couldn't form alliances, she couldn't gain popular support (huge disaproval rate, barely won an election against one of the worst candidates ever), her administration was full of scandals and she had to basically sell her soul to be elected. That deal for presidency plus the fact that she antagonized Cunha resulted in her current situation. It was a desastrous move for her party to lose so many potential candidates on the Mensalão scandal. Now with their grip on the presidency loosened Lula's name is going to be dragged through the mud until the next elections so as to prevent him from being elected.
They never managed to progress with any impeachment because there was no popular support. This time people went to the streets to demand an impeachment - and some against it but it didn't really matter since Globo helped them by manipulating the news. I get that Dilma's crap but It can't stand people who are way worse getting to decide if she stays or not, I can't stand the media manipulating people, I can't stand people thinking this is a leap out of corruption.

How salty can you be to try to impeach the president 50 times? Shit there was a petition against Itamar Franco that was literally one page. And they also got Globo to support Collor's impeachment. And people know this isn't a leap out of corruption, just read the survey that it was published today. People think Temer's government will be shit and that he's corrupt. But him being shit doesn't excuse Dilma. If anything, it's worse because she's the reason he's there.
How there wasn't popular support? Did you not see all the protests? Globo supported Collor's impeachment because he broke down the economy and people literally killed themselves because they thought they lost their money. It was such a big fuckup that even Globo didn't like And I do see a lot of people saying that the corruption is going to be cleared from now on and the people can take down politicians "one by one", which clearly ain't gonna happen.

That politics is a one-off contest. That corruption has ended because one administration is out. That your "righteous" crusade has done anything but hand the government over to an equally corrupt opposition. Your passion sure is riveting - but are you going to use it to bring your pro-impeachment heroes to trial when they're accused of the same crimes? Or are you going to stick your head in the sand and pretend they're saints, because the other option means vindicating those gosh darn petistas?

It has no bearing on the topic. It's useless pointing out the scandals of the previous administrations. They don't do away with our current situation, they don't acquitted or condemn Dilma. I was ironising his choice of argument.
