A small-town Ohio police department was shut down Friday after a cop allegedly used a taser on a 9-year-old boy, and the police chief kept quiet about it.
Details about the taser incident on Tuesday are few, but the Coshocton Tribune reported that the officer had been called to a Mount Sterling apartment where a child was refusing to go to school.
At some point, the visit became hostile and the part-time officer allegedly used a taser to subdue the boy. The police chief is accused of hiding the incident from village leaders.
City officials suspended Mount Sterling Police Chief Mike McCoy for three days, leaving the village without a police department. Meanwhile, the office's computers and weapons were seized, and state investigators are probing the incident, 10-TV reported.
The county sheriff's office will take over police operations in the area until city officials determine what to do next.
The closure isn't the first for the Mount Sterling police force. The village laid off all its officers except for the chief in September due to budget cuts, the station reported.
It's yet unclear when the department will be reformed.
Mount Sterling had a population of just under 2,000 in 2010, according to Census data.
Just a bad apple.
A taser
on a 9 year old kid
And the chief tries to keep it quiet?
What kind of fucking bullshit is that, but just how much of a retard is that Chief, fucking hell.
I understand doing something about a kid that refuses to go to school but what the fuck is this?
Lol, "Bad Apple". Can't you people admit it's more than just a few guys in the police being incompetent, power-tripping dickwads? This shit keeps happening over and over again; there's a real problem here and being in denial over it won't help stop shit like this.

Yes, we need to stop this, and we need to act... However, you can't say theese are not bad apples, since the majority of police officers are nice. I agree however on what you are saying with how we can't deny this is happening.
Can we settle this dumb arguing by saying the police situation in the U.S. is a very serious issue of corruption that needs rectification ASAP but that doesn't mean every second cop is going to shoot you in the face or arrest you for no reason.
It was stupid for the chief to put up any resistance to this story getting out. People like to hear about police officers getting disciplined for bad conduct, attempts to keep these stories in the volt really only amplify the problem.

can we have a police thread without mentioning fruit
so where's your source
Forgot to add it.
I know police look out for one another but they really have to reconsider their code of silence to be protecting things like this.
That surely cant be safe for a minor if it can make a fully grown man drop like a sack of shit.

Bad carrots.
One bad apple of the police department caused the whole tree to rot.
The police chief shouldnt have kept it hidden, it might kill the police's reputation but hiding it just caused twice the damage.

What does this have to do with corruption? Can you please point out a single recent incident or piece of news that indicates corruption in any American police department?

If the chief just kicked his ass off the force, the station would still be open, AND, they would get a nice rep boost for doing something about a cop that fucked up.

So the chief was the officer?

Being laid off just means that the company or business is running low on money and cannot afford to pay anyone, so they tell them to not work to save money. It's similar but not the same as being fired.
I hate tasers. Tasers are not non-lethal, they are less-than-lethal. They can especially be lethal if used on the elderly, people with certain conditions, or young children. This is what happens when you give cops only 4 hrs. training on the Taser and then expect them to use it responsibly. Over 700 people have died from Tasers since their introduction into US police forces.

good cops don't make headlines.
The parents are just as much at fault for this as the cop.
What kind of lazy ass parents call the cops when the kid doesn't want to go to school?

Ones without a car? They probably just wanted the officer to take him to school, considering that in some places, if you call the police to come and get you from the bar and take you home, they will. It gives them something to do, plus they have a fun conversation with a drunk guy.
Whoooops sorry sonny, don't tell your day kay?
