• Former President Clinton bashes the NRA
New York (CNN) -- Bill Clinton addressed a number of crime and justice issues during a sweeping talk with CNN on Wednesday, including taking on the National Rifle Association and its pro-gun policy. The former president, in a conversation with CNN's Erin Burnett at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York, lumped together the NRA, stand your ground laws, and people surrounding themselves only with those who agree with them as problems that lead to a more violent climate in the United States. Clinton, however, rejected the idea that several high-profile cases with apparent racial undertones mean the U.S. is more racist than it was in the past. "I think we have enhanced the risks by changing the environment, basically, because it seems we bought the NRA's theory that we would all be safer if everybody in this audience had a gun that was a concealed weapon," Clinton said. "Then if one of them felt threatened by another, they could stand up right here and stand their ground. And we could watch the whole saga unfold. That is what happens."
http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/24/politics/bill-clinton-nra/index.html?hpt=hp_t4
I prefer the NAGR.
kinda right though, when everybody's armed people are going to get shot over more petty things because people felt "threatened"
Gee, the president that introduced the ineffective assault weapons ban doesn't like the NRA? I'd never have guessed.
He should stick to bashing interns.
Just watching that video has reminded me why I never want to see another Clinton in office. [editline]25th September 2014[/editline]
kinda right though, when everybody's armed people are going to get shot over more petty things because people felt "threatened"
We create tools to endure for the weaknesses we might have. :v:
Gee, the president that introduced the ineffective assault weapons ban doesn't like the NRA? I'd never have guessed.
Clinton didn't introduce the FAWB because the executive branch doesn't introduce legislation. Also, a federal ban on semi-automatics had been in the works for years before he signed the final bill, had bipartisan support, and polled extremely well. All this is beside the fact of course. Why not challenge his argument instead of bringing up a bill he signed? He does make a fair point about how the NRA exists mostly to sell guns to paranoid folks.
I don't take advice from laywers who have been disbarred for life.
If you need to own a gun for reasons other the hunting you should probably not be living in that area
If you need to own a gun for reasons other the hunting you should probably not be living in that area
if you live in that area you statistically can not afford to move out
kinda right though, when everybody's armed people are going to get shot over more petty things because people felt "threatened"
Gun crime has been going down for over a decade, so no.
Gun crime has been going down for over a decade, so no.
(from http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbse&sid=31) It kinda seems like the "other guns" category is going down a bit but aside from that extreme peak in ~1993 handguns are staying roughly the same for this date period, and this graph from the CDC shows a similar trend for -all- gun violence so if I'm going to go by this, yeah the gun violence has gone down from the extreme it was at a little while ago but it's staying mostly steady now. If you have even more recent statistics than 2010, it'd be interesting to see those too. In any case it's definitely not rising.
While i prefer the NAGR over the NRA, why the hell would I care what Clinton says? Go bang another intern Bill. Your AWB was ineffective, banned parts off a gun because they were spooky, and proved most anti gun legislators have zero knowledge of firearms. The gun crime rate continues to fall, and will continue to do so without ineffective gun control bills.
kinda right though, when everybody's armed people are going to get shot over more petty things because people felt "threatened"
You're less likely to shoot someone for saying something mean if they have a gun too lol

I don't understand the fervent support for the NRA by American gun owners. The NRA lobbies for gun manufacturers. Their job is to make sure as many guns as possible are sold to as many people as possible, they don't give a shit about the second amendment beyond what it means for their bottom line. There are so many organizations out there that are actually for gun owners and don't do something each week that makes gun owners look like a bunch of idiots.
kinda right though, when everybody's armed people are going to get shot over more petty things because people felt "threatened"
The only people who will be carrying a firearm regularly and could pull a gun when "threatened" are gangbangers and CWP license holders. CWP license holders are statistically some of the most upstanding citizens in the US.

They may not support my ability to get guns for cheaper or get foreign made firearms, but at least they support my right to own a firearm. I don't like the NRA and I'll never give them a cent of my money, but they're pretty much all we got. Sure theres plenty of other gun-rights groups, but none of them have the weight that the NRA does.

Ah, got a love that knee jerk reaction when someone says anything remotely negative about firearms. I can't wait for people to fire off their dumbs at me, but I agree. The idea that everyone should carry a gun is fucking absurd. There are so many people who would abuse that power and so many entitled shits who think they could do what they want, even if everyone else has a gun. That could lead to, at the very least, a lot of people being even more dickish than usual, and at worst a hell of a lot more incidences of gun violence. I mean, first of all, how many people do you know, and I mean know in real life and not just some bullshit story you heard on the internet, that thwarted a potential crime with their gun? I know my answer is none, and I live next to one of the most violent cities in America. The truth is, from the perspective of a bystander, normal, non-criminal people, have guns for 3 reasons: They like shooting (and it is admittedly fun) and that is a fine reason, they like hunting (again, fun) which is also a good reason, and then there are those who want to feel empowered. And that is not a good reason. For as many people who spew about "I keep it for protection" I have yet to hear of more than a tiny handful of isolated incidences in which someone legitimately protected themselves with a firearm.
I own guns and the NRA is probably my biggest enemy, if only for the stigma they produce.
Also they didn't do anything when the ATF banned the import of 7N6 5.45x39 ammo, or when Obama put sanctions on the import of Saiga/Vepr AKs.
For as many people who spew about "I keep it for protection" I have yet to hear of more than a tiny handful of isolated incidences in which someone legitimately protected themselves with a firearm.
You can't exactly predict when a situation will occur where you would need a firearm for protection. "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" is the typical philosophy for this type of thing. It's pretty silly to say it's dumb to CC or own a firearm for protection unless you're absolutely certain that you'll need it or you've talked to Nostradamus' ghost and he's told you when you're gonna get carjacked. And to counter your completely anecdotal evidence; I live in the safest city in the US, and I've had to defend myself with a firearm at least 453 times in the past month
I prefer the NAGR.
[t]http://edgecast.metatube-files.buscafs.com/uploads/videos/image/image_4424_2.jpg[/t]
The cultural differences between the UK and the US are fascinating. Over here, very few people question the almost-total ban on guns, but I guess our far denser population (and therefore more available police force) makes it far easier for citizens to feel safe. I don't really think it's a black and white issue, and though I'm a pacifist, I can understand why people would want to defend themselves.
I can't wait for people to fire off their dumbs at me, but I agree

I mean, first of all, how many people do you know, and I mean know in real life and not just some bullshit story you heard on the internet, that thwarted a potential crime with their gun? You're asking for anecdotes from people on the internet but don't want people to provide anecdotes from the internet. Your argument is pure conjecture, but so is all the other arguments about this subject so I'm not going to hold that against you. As for my answer to your question, two.
What else is new?
