Pope Francis - "10 points to live a happier life".

An excerpt from the list...
1. “Live and let live.” Everyone should be guided by this principle, he said, which has a similar expression in Rome with the saying, “Move forward and let others do the same.”
2. “Be giving of yourself to others.” People need to be open and generous toward others, he said, because “if you withdraw into yourself, you run the risk of becoming egocentric. And stagnant water becomes putrid.”
3. “Proceed calmly” in life. The pope, who used to teach high school literature, used an image from an Argentine novel by Ricardo Guiraldes, in which the protagonist — gaucho Don Segundo Sombra — looks back on how he lived his life.....

Pope Francis is pretty good at making lists, he should get a job with RPS.

If Pope Francis is gonna get a job at RPS, I want to see his takedown of how sex is portrayed in Mass Effect 2 while gushing about the latest indie games.
Cool, another person with more life changing advice for people that don't want it since it's the same shit we've always been told.
Wow, it's fucking nothing.
The Pope has been reading too many Cracked "advice" articles it seems.
9. Don't proselytize; respect others' beliefs. "We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: 'I am talking with you in order to persuade you,' No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing," the pope said.
This is the smartest thing any pope has ever said.
I completely and totally agree with the entire list, actually. Live and let live. Take it easy once in a while. Don't waste your entire life at the office. Don't wreck the world. Don't be a dick. It's not that complicated.

Only a fool refuses to at least listen to good advice. Whether you follow up on it or not is your problem entirely, but refusing to listen to good advice is basically sticking your fingers up your ears for no real reason.
Or do what ISIS does and murder literally everyone that doesn't agree with you.
8. Stop being negative. "Needing to talk badly about others indicates low self-esteem. That means, 'I feel so low that instead of picking myself up I have to cut others down,'" the pope said. "Letting go of negative things quickly is healthy."
A lot of the internet could use this advice. Especially Facepunch.
I'm all Live and let live and it's great.

Maybe a fools tired of hearing the same shit endlessly droned at them over and over as if it's some new philosophical breakthrough that'll herald a climactic shift in our cultural consciousness.
It's literally exactly the same as everyone's been told for the past few thousand years, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, it's hardly sticking my fingers in my ears and ignoring it, it's people going on about it like a broken fucking record.
Condensed version:
1. Be excellent to each other
2. Party on, dudes
I understand your concerns, but my other statement was made in a more general sense. Not specifically directed at what the Pope said in his announcement. Good point though; a lot of people tend to get upset when fed the same homilies time and again.
5. Sundays should be holidays. Workers should have Sundays off because "Sunday is for family," he said.
I am quite baffled! Family, and that's it. No "Friday is for god", but family. This is interesting to hear from the pope.
This is a code every human being should share. No matter what religion you choose to believe in, it applies the same.

If he practiced what he preached, maybe he wouldn't be so against same sex couples adopting.
If he practiced what he preached, maybe he wouldn't be so against same sex couples adopting.
I too expect the pope to not be the pope
If he practiced what he preached, maybe he wouldn't be so against same sex couples adopting.
At least be thankful that this particular pope is much more welcoming to homosexual practices than most if not all popes in the past. There's a reason why he's so much more popular than popes usual are.
I too expect the pope to not be the pope
It looks like it's too much to hope for a pope that doesn't fall prey to the traditional tropes.

He could get a job making those stupid ads.
Learn the 10 neat little tricks this pope uses to live a happier life! Psychologists hate him!

You ought to read rule #8
I hope this man's words spawn a new humanist movement in Western religion and society. It could one day revolutionize the ideals being preached all across America to something more realistic and actually good for humanity as a whole rather than a set of rituals that must be adhered to to get into 'paradise' that condones shaming, discrimination, and often destroys families and communities over religious and cultural conflict.
If he practiced what he preached, maybe he wouldn't be so against same sex couples adopting.
"Yeah me might do all of these great things bUT THIS RELIGIOUS LEADER IS RELIGIOUS"
You people will never be pleased.
You ought to read rule #8
You're right, we should just ignore obvious faults and wrongdoing so we can all be nice to each other.
see, it doesn't take long to think of a better list than the 10 commandments

You're reinforcing his point
Maybe this thread could be about these 10 points, without attacking the source.

I was actually responding to a different post that wasn't necessarily about the 10 points. Contrasting the church's anti-gay stance with Francis' list here is worth considering.
I don't actually disagree with most of his points (except for number 9, which I vehemently disagree with and don't think anyone on earth is actually capable of doing).

Why don't you talk about the church's stance on homosexuals in a thread about the church's stance on homosexuals instead of wrecking this thread with shit that has nothing to do with the topic - the pope listing good things everyone ought to do?
Why must everyone bring up a flaw when they do something decent and good for a change? Would you like it if everyone brought up something terrible about you every time you donated to charity?
"He donated $100 to cancer! But it doesn't matter because he's a total dick to some people".

What the hell do you want people to say in this thread? "Wow, those points are really swell!" "I can really agree with those things the Pope said." "This pope is a cool guy."

Is it really that hard? Are you so bigoted against these people that you cannot possibly let one good deed pass without mentioning their errors?
