We have an intriguing development for you today, one that involves what’s supposedly a new Chromebook that it’s currently in the works.
Developer Francois Beaufort (the guy who provided the screenshots of the new Notification Center on Chrome OS) has published a post that seemingly shows a device named Chromebook Pixel. The device is a Chromebook with full touchscreen display, running at 2560 x 1700 pixels resolution. Beaufort calls it Google Link, and says that the device is currently undergoing testing at Google.
Picture clearly shows it is only 3x3. I'm not a resolution whore but that is a bit low tbh
Google scares me.
jfc
Chromebooks went from $350 pieces of shit to this?
The resolution without the screen size is kind of pointless.
I agree that it is amazing if it's on a 13" screen, but not so much if it's on a 21" screen.
Sounds hot, I'd love to see google really pushing ChromeOS and a laptop Nexus. I like the idea of having a macbook because I know what I'm buying is good stuff with constant support from Apple, but I can't afford it and I don't like the locked system.
Go Google, you magnificent bastard, you have my trust.
Picture clearly shows it is only 9x3. I'm not a resolution whore but that is a bit low tbh
actually it's 3x3, as one pixel = 3 colors
actually it's 3x3, as one pixel = 3 colors
Oh yeah
hardware looks amazing but i'm still not sure i'm a fan of chromeOS
law suit from apple for being grey
Me wants. Of course the price could be make or break, and the fact it's google means it'll be very reliant on internet connectivity.
EDIT: I mean that's the point, right? It gives ~200 GB Google Drive storage and some small ~16 GB SSD? My flash drive is as big as the internal storage.
Correct me if I'm wrong here.
-snip-
That thing looks fantastic
Like a CR-48
I wish it didn't have the cylindrical hinge though
I hope it's not too expensive, might get one and throw a linux distribution on there
hardware looks amazing but i'm still not sure i'm a fan of chromeOS
I like ChromeOS but like on a shitty laptop you have that no one uses. If they don't add enough new features for this all that hardware is just going to be wasted.
If it is similar to the nexus line then it won't have a big markup, cool

yeah exactly, chromeos seems neat if you just want a cheap laptop to carry around and browse the web with but i don't see the point in releasing a high-end laptop with really good hardware that ships with an OS that focuses entirely on browsing the internet

Maybe this comes in conjunction with the whole android apps in chrome rumour
That'd be pretty neat.
Picture clearly shows it is only 3x3. I'm not a resolution whore but that is a bit low tbh
The resolution is actually 3x3 because the 3 of those = 1
I just don't see where Chromebooks fit inbetween tablets and Ultrabooks/Laptops
pure google
awesome
I just don't see where Chromebooks fit inbetween tablets and Ultrabooks/Laptops
AFAIK they're a lot cheaper than ultrabooks, but without being slow as shit like traditional laptops/netbooks of the same price
I just don't see where Chromebooks fit inbetween tablets and Ultrabooks/Laptops
I didn't see where tablets fit inbetween laptops and phones but they changed that.
I didn't see where 7 inch tablets fit inbetween 10 inch tablets and phones but they changed that.
I'll trust them this time.

why is everyone insisting this is the new terrible future of all technology ever
too bad chromebooks are shit
at least they're smart and going touchscreen

The point is saving you the $300 liscensing fee per laptop for a copy of basic windows.
It's a BYOOS
why is everyone insisting this is the new terrible future of all technology ever
Right now, I agree, it's not that great, but if in the future I had an always-connected 1Gb/s connection then it wouldn't bother me
ohmygod it's not a tablet?
awesome
Right now, I agree, it's not that great, but if in the future I had an always-connected 1Gb/s connection then it wouldn't bother me
on the one hand, I think it's absolutely stupid people keep fear mongering new products under the fact you'd have to be always-connected.
First off, no company would require that, even google. It cuts functionality and restricts the market a fuckton
second, how many of you are connected to the internet 24/7 anyways, god damn it's being treated like someone's installing a surveillance camera with a 'do not touch' button on it in your bedroom.
tech like that would kill profits from limiting the audience to paying for 4G service or finding a wifi hotspot in order to open their book up to play a game or write down some stuff in notepad. Same goes for the XBox panic everyone's having related to unconfirmed news sources constantly flailing around a red flag with the words "DRM DOOMSDAY" written on it
Honestly
I could give a flying fuck
Am I the only one that doesn't care about super high resolutions for a mobile device or "netbook"? I don't honestly see the point, as long as it isn't abysmally low. If i'm doing something that requires a high res to enjoy or use, then I'm using a desktop, or a fully decked out laptop that might as well be a desktop.
hopefully Google will be nice enough to let you install windows on it if you want to
