A buddy and I go cycling together on the weekends. Problem was, I live nearly two hours away. So how I do I transport my bike (without borrowing the minivan)? Well, I decided to build a bike rack for my car. Being a corvette (fiberglass, flimsy) I didn't want to use an off the shelf universal model because it would sit on the body/paint. And no one makes one specifically for a C5 corvette. Mine only touches glass. It took me about 10 hours of labor over a 2 day period. I would have taken it slower but I was rushing to get done before Saturday. It came out pretty nicely I think. Was reasonably inexpensive too.
I tried it out today. Drove a total of around 220 miles, 30 or so of that with 2 bikes loaded. Never had any issues. Even had to get on the brakes hard when a Prius pulled out in front of me on the highway, but it stayed put. I'm going to make a couple of tweeks to it before next weekend. One of which is adding a couple more coats of paint.
Lotsa' pics, had a couple with my friend's bike loaded... but I just got a new phone and synced it when I got home... which nuked the pics. Oh well.
