Source: https://newrepublic.com/minutes/129335/feminist-gloria-steinem-says-young-women-support-bernie-want-attention-boys
Steinem dropped the notion during an interview on Bill Maher’s show, in the context of a broader discussion of this season’s Democratic primary. Discussing Clinton and Sanders’s respective support bases during the Friday night interview, Steinem said:

“Women are more for [Clinton] than men are. ...First of all, women get more radical as we get older, because we experience. ...Not to over-generalize, but ... men tend to get more conservative because they gain power as they age, women get more radical because they lose power as they age. And, when you’re young, you’re thinking, where are the boys? The boys are with Bernie...”
Silly women, you're not capable of independent thought.
Steinem once declared Bernie Sanders an “honorary woman” to endorse him in a 1996 race against a Republican woman. If Steinem has radicalized with age, her remarks about young women’s politics certainly don’t show it.
Some strange female supremacy stuff right here.
but ... men tend to get more conservative because they gain power as they age, women get more radical because they lose power as they age.
Bit anecdotal but I've experienced the opposite.
oh please, this woman is payed to say this shit if what bernie is saying is true and plans on following on his promises he will effect some corrupt but wealthy people. so without a doubt there desperate to say what ever it takes to hurt his cause,.
I loved seeing the same group of women cheer for her on basically everything she said but when she said that they stayed dead silent. That was really satisfying.
Oh yeah, nothing like a girl with political leanings to get a boy interested. I know I never look twice at a woman unless she gives me a presentation on the various leaders and who she's voting for. Just the other day I saw a group of teens call out to a young lass "Show us yer voting card, luv!"
Some strange female supremacy stuff right here. Bit anecdotal but I've experienced the opposite.
"Female supremacy" Was calling Bill Clinton "the first black president" a form of "strange black supremacy?" That's what you're saying. She said that because he has an exceptional track record on these types of issues and wanted to sway women voters away from the woman candidate to one who is stronger on the issues she cares about. Why she isn't doing that now is beyond me, but don't pretend that calling someone an "honorary woman" is a feminist conspiracy.
I didn't expect the most flagrantly sexist thing I've heard all week come from a feminist but I guess that's radical feminism for you.
yeah i swipe left if they don't have a hashtag relating to bernie in their tinder bio
I'm just picturing the terrible pickup lines associated with this. "Come over here babe and show my independent senator some bi-partisan support."
I didn't expect the most flagrantly sexist thing I've heard all week come from a feminist but I guess that's radical feminism for you.
I don't suppose you've ever wandered into the radical corners of Tumblr then?
"Female supremacy" Was calling Bill Clinton "the first black president" a form of "strange black supremacy?" That's what you're saying.
Interesting way of viewing it. I read it as her implying that women should only support other women. With a radfem its hard to tell though.
I didn't expect the most flagrantly sexist thing I've heard all week come from a feminist but I guess that's radical feminism for you.
Steinem really isn't a "radical feminist." She's pretty staunchly second-wave feminist - anti-pornography and iffy on trans rights, but all for same sex marriage, reproductive rights, abortion rights, etc. She's outspoken about female genital mutilation and circumcision, and a modern liberal would agree with pretty much every position she holds except for pornography and trans rights. She calls herself a radical feminist, but most others would agree she's a very mainstream liberal feminist. Hell, she's spoken out against some of the more theoretical and confusing academic feminism that leads to the idiotic "kill all men" radical feminism. By most metrics, she was radical in the 60s, and she's mainstream now.

Not that she actually holds radical beliefs. I'm not trying to paint her as crazy or extremist and I can see why the wording is confusing.

She is, at best, a radical sex-negative second-wave feminist. She's about as liberal as Valerie Solanas or Andrea Dworkin, which is to say: not at all. If believing sexist stuff like "women only vote for bernie sanders because they want boyfriends" is modern, mainstream feminism then count me out. Also, I'd like to point out that there are different kinds of second-wave feminist, including among other things sex-positive liberal feminists like Camile Paglia, Cathy Young and Christina Hoff Sommers and sex-negative radical feminists like Gloria Steinem and the aforementioned Dworkin and Solanas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminist_sex_wars). I don't know how shooting Andy Warhol and believing that roughly 50% of the human race are lesser creatures isn't radical enough for you, but I hate to think what kind of madness is running around in art colleges these days if people like Andrea "all men are nothing but walking dildos" Dworkin are considered mainstream.
By most metrics, she was radical in the 60s, and she's mainstream now.
Her views being mainstream feminism is not a positive sign.
I didn't expect the most flagrantly sexist thing I've heard all week come from a feminist but I guess that's radical feminism for you.

Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright introduced Hillary Clinton at an event in New Hampshire on Saturday, telling the crowd and voters in general: “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other!”
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/feb/06/madeleine-albright-campaigns-for-hillary-clinton Wow, today is women for Hilary day.
Haha holy shit I almost attended this event before I realized it'd be a crowd of soccer moms Glad to see I hit the nail on the head
Changing political parties for a boy sounds like something a TV show would have parodied.
I don't suppose you've ever wandered into the radical corners of Tumblr then?
Not relevant, it's the equivalent of associating anyone caring about men's issues with MGTOW and /r9k/ bullshit.
Changing political parties for a boy sounds like something a TV show would have parodied.
It sounds like something a Republican senator or presidential candidate would say then subsequently get reamed by liberals and progressive media.
I like how the implication is that young girls are so simple minded and hedonistic that they would vote for someone just to get some boys to pay attention to them. That sounds like something a redpiller would say, maybe horseshoe theory is real.
“Women are more for [Clinton] than men are. ...First of all, women get more radical as we get older, because we experience. ...Not to over-generalize, but ... men tend to get more conservative because they gain power as they age, women get more radical because they lose power as they age. The boys are with Bernie...”
I don't understand this quote; if younger women are supporting Bernie is she suggesting that's because he's the more conservative candidate? Because apparently older women are more liberal, which honestly doesn't make much sense to me either if you look at it in a real world context.
I didn't expect the most flagrantly sexist thing I've heard all week come from a feminist but I guess that's radical feminism for you.
I was, but I've seen some stupid shit spewed from them that actually got praised, so I'm desensitized at this point.
I have a strict, "Don't Bern, won't give ya a birth" Policy. Haven't really seen the results yet, but should make the world a better place (and more attractive.)
Feminists supporting Hillary because she's a woman are what we call "useful idiots" Let me clarify: they are useful idiots to Hillary.
"women only have opinions to impress men" That sounds like something you'd hear from a sexist old man.
As a young woman, I can confirm this. All I want is attention from boys half my age.
are you pedophile
are you pedophile
no im a cougar
