His uniform was so fucking dicked up I'm pretty sure he TRIED to fuck it up. I'm not sure how he managed to pull that off either since there's plenty of instructions on how to properly dress an ACU on the internet. Not only that but it's like he browsed through a handful of ranks/badges and just grabbed the coolest sounding shit to slap on his uniform.
I don't know why everyone has to shoot for the stars when pretending to be a soldier. If he claimed he was a cook or fucking something no one would give a shit. But no, he has to play pretend as a Staff Sergeant Ranger with 3 CIB's.
Maybe he could have passed it off if he looked like he could actually pass the physical requirements to be an infantryman, let alone a fucking ranger. Too bad he looks like he gets winded by a short stroll.

100% he's a fake. Anyone who's actually accomplished anything as difficult as becoming a US Army Ranger would stand his/her ground and be way, way, way more pissed off of being accused of being a fake. Either that, or he'd/she'd just have the right answer and not make an ass of themself.

Because along with the vanity that makes them decide they have these discounts they didn't earn coming to them, they think they're hot shit and want to seem like it without having to earn that either.
