I can't believe that by 2014, America will no longer be entwined with any active wars.
the battle is over, but not the war.
fuckin' obongo
It's been over half my life. I'm tired of being at war with people all the time.
We've been in war for almost my entire life. For someone to finally say it's all over just feels surreal.
Good fucking riddance. We should have never gone in the first place.
About fucking time
Hard for me to believe we've been in this mess for roughly 11 years now
wait...what about the war on terrorism
What about the drones we still have over Pakistan?
But what about the War Economy and the PMC's and the SOP?
What about the drones we still have over Pakistan?
And Yemen, don't forget those every now and then.
I can't believe that by 2014, America will no longer be entwined with any active wars.
Not to be pessimistic, but that's assuming new ones don't sprout up.

I was born 1995 so I was not terribly old and wise when it occurred, but really, it seems to have zero obvious effects on my life to make it clear that it's there. Besides crushing debt of course but I am young and sheltered from that.
We're gonna go back in, UN doesn't think NATO and ISAF are a good enough world police.

War isn't going to be over for decades, or atleast until the Taliban stop trying to take the government on. What is Obama talking about, just because the US leaves, the Army and government they put in power doesn't mean war is over.

I grew up too in this war, and i've just become insensitive to it. I think when we're done with it, life will change
What about the drones we still have over Pakistan?
Bombing foreign countries isn't an act of war, silly!
Maybe now they spend the Budget on useful things like NASA and Med care
wait...what about the war on terrorism
That's like the war on drugs, you can't stop terrorisim
I can't believe that by 2014, America will no longer be entwined with any active wars.
Give it 5-15 years. ( I think the longest we've gone without military intervention was between 1916-1943). At least in the last century. [editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
That's like the war on drugs, you can't stop terrorisim
I was going to use that analogy...

Next war will be in The Pacific. Going to be tough fighting.
Guess dads finally coming home for good soon.
Not to be rude, or otherwise disrespectful, but could you please summarize the article? I got confused going through the first page
It essentially says that with the rise of drone warfare and hiring of "defense contractors" (mercenaries) coupled with the fact that most of the "volunteer" military is the children of former volunteer military (essentially the same families fight in wars each generation) the American population can go on as if there's not really a war at all, anywhere. This in turn makes it far, far more easy for the government to make wars as the American populace mostly won't really "see it" or care about it. With drones and defense contractors rising, the casualty rate of American soldiers will eventually drop, which is the biggest reason anyone is against such wars. And with most military families sticking to other military families with a death or casualty in the family, the broader public doesn't hear much of the pain and suffering such wars cause. I read an opinion blog on this that it undermines one of the basic principles of a republic in that republics won't go to war so easily as the whole of their people determine if it should be done and the whole of its people bear the consequences. But with drones and such, the "bearing of consequences" are not felt and thus the people won't care how often we go to war.
What a wonderful waste of time
