British Ebola survivor calls Band Aid 30 'cringeworthy'
William Pooley, the British nurse who survived Ebola, has described the Band Aid 30 single as "cringeworthy" and "a bit much".He said he heard the first half of the song on his way into work in Sierra Leone where he is treating Ebola sufferers at an isolation unit.
Mr Pooley noted the track was "definitely being talked about here among my colleagues".
"It's Africa, not another planet," Mr Pooley told the Radio Times magazine.
"Stuff about Do They Know It's Christmas? It's just like, actually people live normal lives here and do normal things.
"That sort of cultural ignorance is a bit cringeworthy. There's a lyric about 'death in every tear,' it's just a bit much."
Emeli Sande, who sings on Band Aid 30, has also said the lyrics need changing, and the song has been criticised by Lily Allen and Fuse ODG, who pulled out of taking part in the recording.
Speaking before Mr Pooley's comments on Monday, Bob Geldof, who re-wrote the lyrics to Band Aid 30 with Midge Ure, said he didn't care about criticism of the song.
This kind of shit happens all the time, when Celebrities do some 'aid' work without any knowledge on the aid that they're doing.
Like Kony 2012 etc.
If they make another Band Aid, I'd rather see the lyrics get one more rewrite to talk about poverty all over the world. Things are bad in many parts of Africa, yes, but not all of Africa, and it's not the only place affected by poverty either. Making lyrics more general would make something which is basically impossible to disagree with, and, in my opinion, have a stronger impact.

Thing is, for this version they STILL kept in "let in light and banish shade", which considering the importance of shade in such a hot land is real inconsiderate.
It'll take a lot of plasters to fix up the 2024 version.

I hope there isn't a 2024 version, I don't want that cunt Bob Geldof getting any more attention.
Kinda reminded me of this

It's an inevitability, I fear. We had one in '84, one in '89, then came '04 and '14. Even if they didn't do it in '94, I have a feeling it's gonna be a thing each decade...
In English a few weeks ago I had to write about why Band Aid 30 was complete bullshit.
Band Aid is just a bunch of mainstream artists huddled together to try and make themselves look better imo.

Exactly, absolute crock of shit, if they took 1% of the money of the artists involved, they'd have more money than what they get from the public.

How dare you suggest people who pretend to contribute to society give up any of their exorbitant and megalomaniacal horde of money. You just need to wait until their publicist and accountant agree on an amount of money to donate at a specified time.
