[I]Oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill laps around the mouth of the Mississippi River delta in this May 24, 2010, image from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft. The oil appears silver, while vegetation is red. On May 24, 2010, the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft captured this false-color, high-resolution view of the very tip of the Mississippi River delta. Ribbons and patches of oil that have leaked from the Deepwater Horizon well offshore appear silver against the light blue color of the adjacent water. Vegetation is red.
In the sunglint region of a satellite image--where the mirror-like reflection of the sun gets blurred into a wide, bright strip--any differences in the texture of the water surface are enhanced. Oil smoothes the water, making it a better "mirror." Oil-covered waters are very bright in this image, but, depending on the viewing conditions (time of day, satellite viewing angle, slick location), oil-covered water may look darker rather than brighter.
The relative brightness of the oil from place to place is not necessarily an indication of the amount of oil present. Any oil located near the precise spot where the sun's reflection would appear, if the surface of the Gulf were perfectly smooth and calm, is going to look very bright in these images. The cause of the dark patch of water in the upper left quadrant of the image is unknown. It may indicate the use of chemical dispersants, skimmers or booms, or it may be the result of natural differences in turbidity, salinity or organic matter in the coastal waters.

BP did not build the well and is taking ALL of the bad rep for it.
(also, without capitalism, we wouldn't need oil - because we wouldn't have cars.)
I sigh when thinking about today's companies. Like most big corporations, only the bottom line matters anymore.
"We lost $720 million from this :saddowns: We won't be able to reach $4 billion this quarter."
Meanwhile, Obama and the government have their hands tied due to laws passed years back that seemed to have no effect on their current situation, never realizing how it might affect the future.
If only it were so simple as to throw out the rulebook for just this one time and get everything done without red tape and worrying about 'public opinion'. Right now, no one gives a shit, they just want this to be done and over with.
Imagine, if the government could just simply tell BP and whoever else is responsible, "Get your dicks out of the account books for just 5 goddamn minutes and look at the shitstorm you created. Give a shit about the world for a second, and just maybe, maybe, you won't been seen as the biggest assholes of all time. Be an example for everyone else. Do something fucking right for once without worrying about your profits."

BP is taking a GIGANTIC financial hit. It's more than simply paying for the cleanup; BP's stock prices are dropping fast. This is the kind of incident that drives companies out of business, and any kind of significant financial hit to a major corporation means countless lost jobs and another hit to an already strained economy.
This incident is hardly BP or Transocean's fault; doubtless, there are many other oil rigs out there that violate similar safety regulations. It was an accident, plain and simple, and both companies are scrambling to get things taken care of. The process is slow because of the size of the companies and the bureaucracy they have to deal with.

BP is the 4th biggest company in the world! Of course they're taking a financial hit but it's not like they can't handle it.

I don't see that as a problem =]
I do.
This is what usually happen's when retards are put in charge of big corperations too much money making to give a shit about things that don't effect them directly.

The fact that you're currently enjoying the benefits of thousands of motor-based industries makes you a bit of a hypocrite.

Ok, let's ditch capitalism and all business ventures that include environmental risks. Have fun living in your socialistic stone age where every rock you mine must be evenly distributed among all the other cavemen.

this.
plus BP has little to no involvement in that right. They simply rented that rig out to deepwater transocean. Which in turn, did not replace the blowout preventer that BP alerted them about. Which was not replaced probably due to the fact that;
A: Money
B: Production effectiveness.
C: All of the above.
So in turn, if you think BP is getting the rap, because it was simply -their- rig, and they neglected their role in handling the issue; you're a fucking retard.
BP has taken more initiative and measures to bring the catastrophe to peace. Transocean did shit.

I am also disagreeing with these days capitalistic tendencies, but I am afraid that this could well happen under any rule and economy.

1. Soviet cars were easily the worst in the developed world
2. They didn't have many
3. The cars they did have were bought by - you guessed it - money
:downs:
