Exclusive: Trump says he thought being president would be easier than his old life

He misses driving, feels as if he is in a cocoon, and is surprised how hard his new job is.
President Donald Trump on Thursday reflected on his first 100 days in office with a wistful look at his life before the White House.
"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."
A wealthy businessman from New York, Trump assumed public office for the first time when he entered the White House on Jan. 20 after he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an upset.
More than five months after his victory and two days shy of the 100-day mark of his presidency, the election is still on Trump's mind. Midway through a discussion about Chinese President Xi Jinping, the president paused to hand out copies of what he said were the latest figures from the 2016 electoral map.

:speechless:

Oh you poor, poor baby.

Why, you aren't insisting Trump is LOW ENERGY are you?
"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."
You're more than welcome to go back to it. In fact, I'd imagine half the country would encourage you to do so.
"Here, you can take that, that's the final map of the numbers," the Republican president said from his desk in the Oval Office, handing out maps of the United States with areas he won marked in red. "It’s pretty good, right? The red is obviously us."
He never really considered the pressures and responsibilities of the job. He just wanted to be The Most Popular Person, like the whole presidency was a Steam achievement.
"I like to drive," he said. "I can't drive any more."
Trump 2020 in jeopardy because old man just gotta do some donuts.
jesus christ i didn't think trump could get any more pathetic
If only France would take a queue from this Trump fiasco
Tell me again how millenials are a bunch of complainers
He should just resign
Trump is like a rapey version of Wheatley.
It's funny how the words you use totally change how people react to it. Both of these statements are essentially expressing the same position, but one of them would be applauded while the other is mocked:
For example, if he had said, "You know, it's much more difficult than I thought it would be. The political morass of Washington sometimes feels like a wall in front of forward progress."
or: "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."

Who knew if you say shit like a fucking idiot or add context to something it can change how it's perceived.

Flowery language or not I'm pretty damn sure that's not what he meant.

Trump does know he won, right? He has been the president of America for 3 months, he won almost 6 months ago. He doesn't have to keep bringing it up, he won't stop being president if he stops talking about his victory.
Probably because now he actually has to work instead of just raking in money through tax loopholes of his 500+ LLCs

He peaked at the election. Everything since then was just downhill.
I thought stocking every produce shelf at a supermarket by myself from 11pm to 7am would be a lot easier than it turned out to be but then life happened. How the hell could anyone possibly think that being the head of state, government and commander in chief of the world's most powerful nation would be ~easier~ than ripping people off in real estate?
If you can't handle being President then you maybe you shouldn't have run for President you dolt.
Where's that tweet where this man insisted that if he were president he would be working all the time and wouldn't be, say, skipping out to the golf course every week as though the presidency were some sort of nine to five job?
"If Trump would've said something else, he would've said something else."
My point is that they mean the same thing. Both are just saying it's harder than they thought, but one is flowery and the other isn't. Trump is just incapable of being diplomatic.
My point is that they mean the same thing. Both are just saying it's harder than they thought, but one is flowery and the other isn't. Trump is just incapable of being diplomatic.
No, he's saying he doesn't have the absolute freedom he used to have when he was just an wealthy business man unbeholden to anyone and with far less scrutiny on him.
The other one is saying that actually affecting change in the system is a lot harder because there are people adamant to resist any change whatsoever.
They're radically different.

You're reading all that into it. He just said it wasn't as easy as he thought. The only specifics mentioned in the article is not having any privacy and not being able to drive yourself.

No, that is literally what they say exactly.

"What if he said something differently" is irrelevant.
He said it that way. Doesn't matter if he was incapable of saying it another way or not. That is what he said, either find the meaning in the actual words or accept them as face value. Don't make up things he could have alternatively said to force a different meaning.

Compared to:
actually affecting change in the system is a lot harder because there are people adamant to resist any change whatsoever.
how can anyone look at a presidency and think "boy this is gonna be an easy gig"

I don't get your problem. I'm not defending Trump. I'm just saying it's amazing how big of an effect the way you say something can have. He said something that pretty much every president says, but in a way that made him seem pathetic.
If anything, it's a critique of Trump.

Did I miss a quote in the article where he makes some kind of clarification? His exact words, straight from the damn horse's mouth, are:
"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."
Maybe I'm just dense 'cause that doesn't sound like 'I am surprised how hard it is to make progress' to me
Maybe I'm just dense 'cause that doesn't sound like 'I am surprised how hard it is to make progress' to me
What else could it possibly mean other than it being harder to get the goals he wants than he thought it would be?
What else could it possibly mean other than it being harder to get the goals he wants than he thought it would be?
I dunno, maybe exactly what it sounds like? That he was not expecting his position to be as difficult as it is in comparison to his old one?
