The phrase "content rated by" has been removed on the new icons, while the name of the rating appears in black on a white background.

The new ratings icons will be implemented immediately, though the change is not going to happen overnight.
Damn, I still remember the old icons where the big letter rating was white and E was called K-A.
The trademark's also been moved to the lower right corner, and the newest rating E10+ has now been around long enough that it's officially registered. Sorta weird to think that it's not even that new anymore; Shadow the Hedgehog (the first game that used it) was eight years ago...

Gaming will never be the same again

edit: somebody else beat me
I like these icons. Much more readable, honestly.
They looked so much better before... dumbasses.
They cut the useless "content rated by," inverted the coloring on the top for improved readability, made the borders cleaner, and put more emphasis on the top section. Plus they dropped the trademark down to make it less top-heavy.
It's a nice design.
Wow the ESRB is still relevant
I don't quite understand the point of game ratings anymore really. Absolutely nobody heeds the warnings. It's like putting "poison warning" labels on the cans for a paint drinking contest

Yeah while we're at it, lets get rid of movie ratings too.
ESRB is very helpful mostly for parents, but it also is useful for me personally. I'd like to know why a certain game is rated the way it is.
Certainly better than the shit the Australians have going.
The new one hurts my eyes to look at.

I've always thought this about ESRB ratings. But I'm used to my ratings looking like this

This will truly revolutionize the gaming world, in ways we cannot possibly imagine.
That's it, they ruined everything, I'm never buying another video game for as long as I live. I'm going to make a petition to get it changed back to the way it was
Since when did Rating Icons needed to be updated?
Even though its an obscure change, I like it.

These are cleaner so that they're more visible on lower-resolution displays like smart devices. There's much less visual noise and what noise is left has been spaced out more evenly. Also the proportions and positioning have been standardized across all six.
I wonder how much someone go paid to redesign them
Australia has better and cleaner classification logos

They look the same except for different trademark position and some of the black&white is inverted.

I swear a facepuncher made this comment
I've honestly never seen a game rated C or A.
should keep the top the way it was imo but i'm fine with the trademark dropping down and the content rated by removal

GTA:SA was upgraded after the whole Hot Coffee incident.
I've honestly never seen a game rated C or A.
only ones i can remember for eC were the sesame street N64 games. you probably won't see an AO game in stores because many refuse to carry it
I've honestly never seen a game rated C or A.
I saw a C rated game once, and several A rated games pre 2004. But I don't think they licence Ao games for consoles any more.

Yeah but it was downgraded again and nearly every retailer stopped selling during the period it was rate AO.

I think eC is used on little kid's games, like the LeapFrog games and ones based on Nick Jr. Shows and the like.
Ao is considered a death sentence for a lot of games, since a lot of stores refuse to carry them.
I honestly wouldn't have noticed the change had you not pointed it out.

I like the contrast between "Nick Jr." and "Death Sentence"
It's not like anyone uses these anyways. An example being call of duty.
Voice chat is filled with fucking preschoolers.
