If you've got an iPhone 3GS, 4, second- or third-gen iPod touch, or either of the iPads you an download Apple's latest and greatest mobile OS right now. That's right, all the fun new features like pull-down notifications, iCloud, iMessage, Find my Friends, Twitter integration and lock screen access to your camera will be at your disposal. Sadly you will not be getting a taste of Siri, which appears to a 4S only feature for now. Still, there's more than enough here to make it a worthy upgrade to your handset. So, what are you waiting for? Go hit that update button now.
Not a huge Apple fan, but this is some good news.
Definetly not the greatest. Almost all these new features can found from Android 1.6 to Android 2.3 And that very similar to android notification bar hmmmm...
iOS5 is an awesome boost from iOS4 (even if the main feature is stolen right from android and made better)
iOS5 is an awesome boost from iOS4 (even if the main feature is stolen right from android and made better)
Yeah, it really is a huge improvement from iOS 4. Can't wait to update my wife's iPad tonight (I gave her my iPad and got an Android tablet) and check it out.
Dammit slow download, go faster!
Won't work on an iPhone 3G. Sad. I really should get a new phone.
iOS5 is an awesome boost from iOS4 (even if the main feature is stolen right from android and made better)
doesn't take away from the fact that it is stolen right from android, and that android has had features much like this for longer than iOS suppose it's still nice for those of you that own a phone with a horrible locked down OS to boost your e-peen (User was banned for this post ("troll" - garry))
iOS5 performs faster than iOS4 did on my 3GS. Much better performance wise (ie same as iOS3)

I'll check it out later on.
Now I just need to wait for a jailbreak for it.
Anyone got a direct download? i can't download it straight from itunes because i've got the gold master.
Thats nice, mums iPod touch 2g still stuck on 4. Fingers crossed the jailbreak comunity get a few iOS features hacked in. Heh, the latest Android rom runs on any phone regardless of age.
isn't the GM identical?
Anyone got a direct download? i can't download it straight from itunes because i've got the gold master.
I couldn't even update to that, I'm on the version before GM and it still says I'm up to date
Excellent. Updating my iPod. Having an android phone and an iPod is a bitch simply because I'm so used to certain android features. Hopefully this'll bridge some of the gap.

It'd be stupid putting iOS5 on an iphone 1, and you've gotta draw the line somewhere.
Thank fuck, now everyone will have the faster javascript stuff, actually makes half of my shit runnable on ios devices now.
Yeah it's probably identical, would just be nice to have a 'legitimate' release, if that makes sense.
So why should I buy a 4S now? like what difference is it in comparison to the 4 if it uses the same firmware/software? Just the camera and Siri?
I think I just agreed to removing all apps by installing this. wtf
Sweet!
what feature was 'stolen from android'?
I think I just agreed to removing all apps by installing this. wtf
What?
Yeah it's probably identical, would just be nice to have a 'legitimate' release, if that makes sense.
Both this release and the GM seeded a few days ago are build 9A334 so yes they are identical.
what feature was 'stolen from android'?
The drop down status bar at the top. You can drag the status bar and expand it like in Android. I think that's what he means.
Both this release and the GM seeded a few days ago are build 9A334 so yes they are identical.
Oh in that case I don't mind.
The drop down status bar at the top. You can drag the status bar and expand it like in Android. I think that's what he means.
Oh, okay. Yeah that seems pretty copied, but I doubt Android was the first to do it.
what feature was 'stolen from android'?
Not sure but most of the shit on iOS 5 where stolen from Apps Apple banned and took credit for.
Oh, okay. Yeah that seems pretty copied, but I doubt Android was the first to do it.
Google (Android) was the first to do that IIRC.
Hit the update button but it said there were no new updates :( Does it come out at a certain time?
