Sony cut "Grimsby" marketing back due to scene where Trump gets AIDS, fears legal retalliation
There was a considerable period of time when a new Sacha Baron Cohen movie was a highly-anticipated event, and yet we haven’t seen much marketing for his upcoming spy comedy The Brothers Grimsby. Granted, Cohen hasn’t been very active since The Dictator, and you wouldn’t be wrong for assuming that his waning popularity might have something to do with Sony’s lackluster marketing push — the underwhelming trailers don’t help, either. But a new report suggests that there might be another reason that general audiences aren’t very aware of The Brothers Grimsby, and that reason might be Donald Trump.

ut according to The Huffington Post, one industry source close to the studio says that Sony is attempting to bury the film’s release because of it. The insider says that the studio is “subtly trying to make it disappear,” and adds, “If you were told that they’re shying away from the movie because of the political implications, I can tell you that’s 100 percent true.”
Sony is reportedly still nervous following the controversy surrounding the release of Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview, which drew threats and led to a massive hack of the studio’s corporate communications due to the film’s depiction of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Per the source, Sony gave Cohen final cut on The Brothers Grimsby, and the studio is frustrated with his refusal to remove the Trump scene, fearing legal retaliation from the notoriously litigious businessman.
I have to ask if a libel lawsuit could cost them more than what it will cost them if the film flops.

This is literally them feigning controversy around their new film.
Without a huge scandal like this, it would flop hard. They're seriously just trying to recapture the fame The Interview got with this film, but it looks like it was made with about 1/3 of the effort.
Clever marketing for sure though.
they are?
I see adverts for it on crunchyroll constantly
I saw an ad at the cinema for it last week. Ad block deals with every other ad and who watches TV these days.
It's really pathetic when companies try to drum up controversy in an attempt to sell their steaming piles of shit to people who think they're fighting censorship by gobbling up controversial garbage
Boy oh boy you know your movie controversy is manufactured when it sounds like it came out of an online South Park episode generator
I think it's time for Cohen to stop making films, he's consistently dropped the ball since Borat

I actually thought Bruno was pretty fucking funny. Main problem is, you can't do those kinds of films all the time. People catch on, and they become tedious to watch. He needs to find something else to do with himself, other than this/The Dictator. He used to be funny.
Then again, maybe it's just his time to leave. He had his place in the sun, but that was then, and this is now.
