CHINA DEMANDS WAR The lead article the Chinese Communist Party newspaper Global Times on Tuesday contained an alarming call for a declaration of war against Vietnam and Philippines, two nations that in recent weeks launched the loudest protests against China’s sweeping maritime sovereignty claims over the South China Sea. Headlined “The Time to Use Force Has Arrived in the South China Sea; Let’s Wage Wars on the Philippines and Vietnam to Prevent More Wars,” the article was written by Long Tao, a likely pseudonym literally translated as “The Dragon’s Teaching.” The name refers to the third chapter of the famous Chinese ancient military classic “Six Secret Military Teachings” that, among other things, promotes the idea that the best way to establish military awesomeness is to kill the highest-ranked dissenters. Vietnam is viewed by China as the most militarily capable state whose government is the most politically uncompromising when it comes to challenging China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea. The Philippines recently riled China greatly for its closeness to Japan, and its cantankerous and successful move last week to hold talks within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, without inviting China, on cooperating and clarifying consensual and disputed claims in the South China Sea. The fiery rhetoric of the article states that “the South China Sea is the best place for China to wage wars” because “of the more than 1,000 oil rigs there, none belongs to China; of the four airfields in the Spratly Islands, none belongs to China; once a war is declared, the South China Sea will be a sea of fire [with burning oil rigs]. Who will suffer the most from a war? Once a war starts there, the Western oil companies will flee the area, who will suffer the most?” The article further calculates that “the wars should be focused on striking the Philippines and Vietnam, the two noisiest troublemakers, to achieve the effect of killing one chicken to scare the monkeys.” What about possible U.S. intervention once China starts a war in the South China Sea? No worry, the article states, because the U.S. will be utterly unable to open a second front in the South China Sea to fight China because it is deeply mired in the anti-terror wars of the Middle East. The Global Times is China’s largest paper focusing on international news under direct sponsorship from the Communist Party central authority.
Last time, 1979, China attacked vietnam, we went 22 miles into their territory. Woohoo, more shit for the US to get involved in...
ohh damn, it seems like there's some crazy stuff going on all over but, as it's been said before "not sure if worlds a worse place, or I'm just aware of whats happening now."
The Phillipines is a former US puppet state, but I'm not so sure we still have a vested interest in them. Regardless, this is hazardous to declare.
I misread the title as "China declares war" Good job OP, you had me worried.
So, china is trying to piss off the world now?
Is this legit?
china's right about the US - i think we've probably realized we've already implanted ourselves in shit too much to get into yet another war. china's going to fuck up it's image if it seriously wants to do this, i'll tell you that for sure.
This is good news for the US. Every war fought by a major power in the last fifty years has been a disaster for the major power? US vs Vietnam? Russia vs Afghanistan? US vs Afghanistan? US vs Iraq? The only exceptions are when it's a major alliance with limited goals (see: UN vs Iraq, UN vs Libya, UN vs Bosnia) or when it's a very limited area (Falklands). Going after Vietnam AND the Philippines will be about as bad for China's morale, economy and military as going after Iraq AND Afghanistan was for the US. Not to mention China is even less prepared than the US was. They've got very limited ability to project their power - their navy is still a disgrace, and they aren't going to be using nuclear missiles on this one. So yeah, I say let them do it. Let China fuck themselves up for once.
I wonder what will Russia do in this one?
Yea, China is going to love the jungles of Vietnam. We should have a bunch of Vietnam vets fly down there when China starts invading. As the Chinese march in they could hold up a banner that says "Welcome to hell!"
In my eyes it doesn't look legit at all.

I wasn't talking about the effect on the invaded country. Let's look at the effect on the invader: Vietnam: US gets messed up. Major social upheaval, confidence in government reaches all-time low, entire generation demoralized Afghanistan/Iraq: Massive economic drain, increasing social upheaval, confidence in government plummeting Same goes for Russia's invasion of Afghanistan. Major international embarrassment, major economic drain, practically trashed national morale. Now think what happens internationally if China's factories are too busy making ammunition and guns to make cheap iPods and Camrys? Manufacturing costs rise, but they also move elsewhere - decent odds on Brazil, South Africa or India, but some of them will definitely come back all the way to the US. That shift, combined with a real pullout from the Gulf, might be enough to bring the economy back into full swing again.
The PRC wants war, or just some crackpot who writes in the Communist Party newspaper? I'm sure with all the inefficient bureaucracy present you can have anything written on the "officially endorsed" Party newspaper.
And once again: Lead Paint Land is twangling their dicks about their Military.
US vs Vietnam? = Funding cut, North didn't follow peace treaty terms
There was no way for the US to win the war in Vietnam, throwing more money at it didn't solve the problem from 1965 to the start of the Tet offensive, when they were in the best position to and when US public opinion was mostly behind it.

Also, yea, I say let them do it. Vietnam is a harsh place, and I'm sure if highly trained U.S soldiers had a hard time fighting in it, Chinese soldiers will too.

[editline]3rd October 2011[/editline] Not to mention Hawaii is the HQ for the Pacific fleet. Two little hornets nests that would be able to provide bomber and naval support if necessary.
Oh shit oh shit we gonna dieeeee Keep panicking and don't calm!
Man this reminds me of operation flashpoint: red river. The chinese attack in chapter 5 kicked my ass. The game isn't very cinematic, but that was one of my favorite gaming moments.
This could get bad, quickly. Hopefully diplomatic resolutions are made soon.
So when would this war start?
War's not going to happen people; stop secretly jerking off to the idea it will.
War's not going to happen people; stop secretly jerking off to the idea it will.
Lets suppose it did. The states would pull out of the middle east to combat the chinese so fast you'd think i was making a joke about premature ejaculation.
Lets suppose it did. The states would pull out of the middle east to combat the chinese so fast you'd think i was making a joke about premature ejaculation.
Which is my point. China isn't going to make a war because it'd be suicide.
Wait...a newspaper is demanding war, not the Chinese Govt, or am I reading the article wrong?
Wait...a newspaper is demanding war, not the Chinese Govt, or am I reading the article wrong?
Consider where the newspaper comes from.
With me being Vietnamese, I'd say no to a war. Most of my family still lives in Vietnam.
