Donald Trump just threatened to cause an unprecedented global financial crisis
In an interview Thursday on CNBC, Donald Trump broke with tired clichés about the evils of federal debt accumulation. "I am the king of debt," he said. "I love debt. I love playing with it."
But he replaced fearmongering about debt with an even more alarming notion — a bankruptcy of the United States federal government that would incinerate the world economy.
"I would borrow, knowing that if the economy crashed, you could make a deal," Trump said. "And if the economy was good, it was good. So therefore, you can't lose."
With his statement, Trump not only revealed a dangerous ignorance about the operation of the national monetary system and the global economic order, but also offered a brilliant case study in the profound risks of attempting to apply the logic of a private business enterprise to the task of running the United States of America.
Does anyone have any doubts hes only in the presidential bid for personal gain?
Wow, trump actually has some insight. Just look at how well it worked for Puerto Rico.
it's almost like he's made his fortune on destructive, duplicitous, underhanded sales tactics that, if implemented on the global economic stage would destroy the world economy
It's almost like he's criminally ignorant of economics and government
Accelerationism HOOOO!
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
Come on. It will be fun. It's like playing Sim City like an Asshole.
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
Because he, "tells it like it is," or something.
Come on. It will be fun. It's like playing Sim City like an Asshole.
except we're the sims living in the city
jesus christ this is like some kind of fucking nightmare
we just BARELY avoided a global depression, and now people are willing plunge the world into a new one for a reality TV star, for fuck's sake
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
Because people are in the mood for a tyrant to lord over them
Because he, "tells it like it is," or something.
In the same way as L Ron Hubbard, yeah! You just have to be easily manipulated, paranoid, and unaware of how the world works on anything beyond the most basic level.
But Trump is even better because supporting him is free.
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
Because he's a manly man who isn't PC, "tells it like it is", and feeds into the widespread racial animosity of this great nation. He'll will make America great again by fuckin his beloved country in the ass, no lube, raw.
Come on. It will be fun. It's like playing Sim City like an Asshole.
more like playing Civ like an asshole
he talks like a fucking 16 year old
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
I think its because people are tired of the "typical politician" and the parties in general, so they want someone who's as far removed as possible but who has a chance of winning.
"I would borrow, knowing that if the economy crashed, you could make a deal," Trump said. "And if the economy was good, it was good. So therefore, you can't lose."
and trump supporters make fun of bernie's policies? jesus
so why do people want this guy as a leader of a whole country?
Couple of things I've seen that might explain it -
1. People seeing others speaking satirically about him and taking it seriously because they're dumb. I feel like some want to "see things burn".
2. Closet racists who think their ideology is becoming mainstream again.
3. Lack of investment in politics and enjoying the show.
People who speak harshly can seem honest. Trump is appealing to a group of people who feel they are not being represented by the government. He's making people think that he's different than the establishment, and most of the people he's targeting are not going to look at the complete record of his declared positions.
It's kind of scary honestly, because voter turnout is only around 55% in recent elections. It doesn't take a whole lot for our government to see a major shift.
Still think he'd make a good president, Cody?
Meh the statement was taken a bit out of context

I would rather the US become a fascist police state ruled over by an immortal dictator than allow Trump to become president.
If he actually managed to do what he's threatening to do it could destabilize the entire planet. Every single country on earth is tied in some way to the US economy. If we go tits up, it would fuck everyone.

what fucking context?
he is threatening to default on the US Government's debt
there is no context in which that happening doesn't result in untold suffering and catastrophic destabilization of the world economy
Wow, trump actually has some insight. Just look at how well it worked for Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico's economy is fucked by the actions of the Federal Government like making it illegal for foreign flagged ships to stop at Puerto Rico before docking in the US, and the IRS making the Island dependant on the Tax Exempt status it held for decades before suddendly revoking it.

No where during the interview did he suggest that he is going to make the country go default. He also made it clear that he wasn't suggesting that.
Honestly, we are do for another recession/depression within the next year or two. They tend to follow 7.5 ~ 10 year cycles, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a recession right during the elections.
No where during the interview did he suggest that he is going to make the country go default. He also made it clear that he wasn't suggesting that.
what he is describing is the United States refusing to pay what it has agreed to pay
that is what defaulting is
He can call it whatever the fuck he wants. It happening would destroy the fucking global economy.

Yeah I don't care if thats what economists say, I'd rather hold off on a depression as long as possible. I'm not going to vote for a guy who is going to fuck shit up just because we might have a recession anyway.
so should i start stocking up on canned foods and MREs
No where during the interview did he suggest that he is going to make the country go default. He also made it clear that he wasn't suggesting that.
not paying exactly what we owe + interest is defaulting
Does anyone have any doubts hes only in the presidential bid for personal gain?
Why wouldn't he be? He's taking a job that pays nothing compared to what he makes now, for worse hours and stress, and a house that's not even close to as good as what he lives in now
In my opinion, the extremely wealthy sort of treat their wealth as like a high score. What do you do when everyone has more money than they could ever spend in 10 life times? Run for president. That's a notch on the belt that the other billionaires don't have

It's a trophy.
waiting for him to announce that he'll just print more money if they're in debt
